Hello everyone and first of all thanks in advance for all contributions.

I have bought a seamaster calendar and now have a doubt on authenticity has I find the R in seamaster weirdly long.

Could someone help and tell me if I should return the item? Best regards

Seb

It is authentic but as noted the dial is refinished.

You guys are crazy quick, I was not expecting such a fast answer. In what a redial Is problematic (talk to me like I'm 9yo, I'm a real newbie).

Collectors appreciate originality. A redial means the dial has been cleaned of its original paint and repainted. The dial is the "face" of the watch, by repainting it most of its value is lost.

Thank you very much for the infos. I don't plan to resell and it seems to be gold so I will keep it.

Just want to give a special mention to conributors I am new here and it's not always easy to get fast, respectful answers when you are not an experienced forum member. All my love for this.

Hands look 'naked' without lume or inlays, think about it...

What did you pay?

Watch looks quite small?

The 2627s are actually nicely chunky at 35mm. And @Sftx 1400€ is less than I would've expected, given that most redialed and overpolished watches are sold by sharks aiming at high prices. Still: It's more than it's worth.

In the end, it's up to you of course. If it's the one vintage watch you want to have, it's gold and shiny and the dial's white, you're enjoying it on the wrist and are ok with the price tag - who are we to judge?

But...
...if you feel like you might like this hobby, and keep on reading and looking at other vintage pieces, I promise you your eye will get trained and with time you'll end up liking this example less and less. It's not the end of the world, of course. Who knows, in a decade you might get your hundreds vintage Omega and chuckle when you think of the quality - or lack thereof - of the first one. But chances are you'll regret it, and if you can still return it why not go that route and dive into the forum. Read, learn, enjoy, and eventually find an original piece to enjoy 😀

This is a great answer. For this budget, would you point out one piece in this style to me that you would be buying? Thanks for input

It's not easy to find good vintage watches at fair prices. When one is for sale, it goes quickly. So it's not like the used car market where you can find anything you want at any time.

Based on the Swan Neck reference above, seem like this watch has a 355 movement when it should be Cal. 353.

What @Dan S said - it's all about patience. If it has to be solid gold, I'd factor in a bit more money. And generally, the more you're ok to pay, the quicker you'll find something that's not a dog.

It's not impossible though, and the OF classifieds certainly aren't the worst place to check out regularly. As an example, here's one I sold there a while ago. Different reference, yes, but also a solid gold 50s bumper Seamaster, just that this one's all original and came with a sharp case:

It's not my intention to rub it in, don't get me wrong. Just to show it's possible to find a good example if you invest either time or money.

To get the perfect watch quickly and for a great price is everybody's dream - and usually stays a dream.

I don't know where you buy your used cars, but I just spent a year finding the right car at the right price...maybe I am a car buyer with the heart of a watch collector!

Hello dear fellows, It seem you were right with the redial but I just wished to give you input after a few months wearing it regularly (once a week approximately). I know it will sound horrific to dedicated collectors but I like it and will keep it. I love the bumper feeling. Also the finish of the dial doesn seem too bad.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for the help.

Next move is a Rolex datejust blue or green, jubilee bracelet and classic bezel recent and MRSP. Anyone as this to sell? xD

Absolutely right - own your choices (and mistakes).
TBH It’s a nice looking watch and I’d be happy to wear it and enjoy it.
