Help w/ 105.012-66 CB caseback

Hello all,

I’m seeking your expertise on a Speedmaster I’m currently examining.

The watch exhibits numerous traits of a 105.012-66 CB—including the case with its distinctive flat lug facets, the stepped dial, flat pushers, correct hands, and a Cal. 321 movement (serial 24.96x.xxx). All indicators suggest it started life as a 105.012. However, the case-back—bearing the CB hallmark—has been re-stamped as 145.012 SP, with the original reference removed.

I’m trying to understand the significance of the CB stamp and what it represents.

Any insights or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!

+ another pic where the pushers look also OK for 105.012 (if I am right)

Yup, those pushers look fine. Nice watch in general, I think!

There have been a number of references where Omega took excess stock of a given defence case and simply ground off the old reference and stamped a new one.

The 198.xxx Omega tuning fork models that share cases with automatic variants springs to mind in that respect.

They did it in exactly that way too, grinding off the old reference and stamping below it.

Hands are probably replacements, IMO.
The seller is seller they have repainted but I dont know if he is right or saying craps. He sent me pictures of the hands prior to maintenance (see below). But I am ok with hands given the price I can handle it.

It is this caseback, I understand the previous reference caseback re-used for the next reference models, but here it looks like we have a 105.012 case band / dial / movement / bezel / everything seems to match but this caseback which is a 105.012 re-stamped into a 145.012. A bit weird.

But then again, I may accept it since in the end it is a 105.012 caseback (although restamped)

The case is nice clearly CB (Centrale Boites, casemaker) with facets, and inside caseback is CB stamp. Rest of watch is fair with hands repainted, just be aware if you buy it and wish to resell later, there will be uncertainty regarding the case markings which may impact price. What is asking price?

Yes repainted. The green lume also doesn’t look original to me. Can be redone obviously if it bothers you.

He asks for 5,500€.

On my side this is a watch I want to keep for long time, and it is likely that I will look for original / better looking hands later on and why not re-lume if I can be sure it will be very well done.

What do you think about the price?
