Hi all. Considering this vintage Speedy to accompany the more recent ones I already own.
I've seen the watch in person and liked it very much. Would love to have some opinions from this knowledgeable group on the dial wear and whether parts like hands, crown or pushers are original or seem to have been replaced.

    Many thanks!

Unfortunately it's value as parts for me as the dial is terrible - look at all the damage/missing paint, particularly around 7 and 11

Surely this will be mostly about cost of acquisition and how Thommas intends to 'use' it. At the right price I could see this as being attractive in it being the reference it is, with the bonus that the condition would allow for it to be worn daily with no fears about consequent value depreciation.

I find the dial unattractive, and that's the heart of the watch.

I'd say the dial has been relumed: how could the plots be intact with most of the minute track eaten away (by moisture?). If it is cheap, and if you have a line on another dial, why not. But with a dial like this, I'd rather have a FOIS.

I think I have mentioned this before with regards to these evaluation requests. Why is the price not mentioned?. This is a critical piece of the information needed. This watch may have some issues but, if it is $5000 it may be a slam dunk regardless of the issues.

Asking price is $10,000 negotiable to maybe $8,000 I would expect. Comes from a reputable dealer with a 2y warranty.

Also critical is what does the mvt look like. If the dial has moisture damage, how about inside. To me that's more important since it really is the heart of the watch and can be really pricey to fix on a 321

This is a good example of what's happening in a maturing market. Desirable models in crappy shape are being flogged at high prices in the hopes of snagging buyers. When the market stratifies like that, as is true in most collecting areas, the best condition examples, hold their own, while the dregs go down. As said before, if this is a wearer, with no expectation of future returns a cheap price is OK, but not at the level being asked.

$8000 may not be bad depending on the movement. That looks like a nice complete 7912/6 bracelet $2000 right there. That puts it head only for $6000?. Now you have to start thinking hard. Incorrect crown btw.

I like to think the mvmt is the heart of the watch. The dial is the face of the watch. The case is the body of the watch. And maybe the history is the soul of the watch. :)

Why would a reputable dealer even sell a piece like this?

No movement pictures? Might be hiding some surprises in there

LOL! Yes, that's obviously the true answer. But dealers sometimes have standards regarding the quality of the pieces that they are willing to have associated with their name.
