When I see Chrono24 in the links it is hard to get interested as the dealers are often pricing the watches higher than you can get here, and also they sell off the good ones before they go through all the trouble of posting it.

I know some have had good experiences with C24 but the experiences of others with tired prepared watches lacking attraction are far more numerous. So to get a good watch from C24 you have to be lucky, quick, and knowledgeable.

Thanks Spacefruit. That is why I am asking on this forum because I had a feeling that would be the case. I do not have lots of connections within the watch world to find a piece like this. My history is cars primarily in that world I have the connections to find things I need. However, even in the car world you get what you pay for... like anywhere I guess 😀 I am discovering the vintage watch world can be just as devious as the car world hence coming on to here to find out more and maybe get a lead to a good piece I can enjoy as part of my collection. As for the dealer prices do they actually achieve what they ask...? The car world does this and, I know for sure only certain cars make the listed ticket value, there is always some negotiation. I take your point about the C24 ads. However, most if not all of the forums expect over 100 posts for people to be able to buy and sell and for me this is not possible as I do not have the time to sit on forums and was put off doing so by many of the car forums over the years, so I tend to keep out of it life is too short to be arguing with folk who really don't know what they are doing (plus I don't have that much indepth knolwedge of all things watch). I have to say this forum has been a breath of fresh air for its nice attitude and help so far.

Thanks for all the help so far,

D

I understand your attitude based on experience.
Here is a different kind of forum. It will be worth your time.
You don’t need any history to buy here, although sellers may be circumspect dealing with you until they know you.
The private sellers here sometimes ask more than dealers - but for special watches - something that you may appreciate with your car history.
Then there are flippers, private sellers with a hunters instinct, that need to sell to replenish their ammunition.
Watches sold here by collectors are often much better in that they are original, or presented with full disclosure.
For us private sellers, our reputation is worth more than the profit we might have to make as dealers.
As a general rule, with a few exceptions, the best watches are held, and sold, by private collectors

Second everything that's been said... and of course, as you journey into vintage watches, enjoy the journey and make friends. That's more than half the fun 😀. You'll come across watches you'd never think you loved before, and I'm sure some watches out there aren't even discovered/fully understood yet.

For a 105.003, the case and dial are paramount IMO.
The cases were often polished which loses the facets (not present on the -64) and this makes a big difference to a case which should be sharp and angular.
As with any reference, the dial has a huge affect on desireability and value.

Thank you and agreed on all points. As yet I have had no need to sell watches only collect them, hence my entrance to this forum. Understood, most private sellers can and generally do ask more questions. However, my time limitations and my ability to provide any useful feedback in such a community still apply, thus the target will be quite difficult/if not impossible to reach. I can see why it is imposed but to myself and many other enthusiasts it is quite frustrating.

Thanks again,

D

Thanks Davidt. This is where I had got to. I did not know the -64 did not have the facets, great piece of info 😀 I also ask as the "acceptable look" can be very subjective so gaining an understanding of where the wider community are sitting with respect to these pieces is important so thank you all for your help so far.

And you should damn well recognize it! I don't type this stuff for my health. If not for my sage advice on vintage watch procurement, watch collectors all over the globe would be sourcing themselves into bankruptcy.

( 😜 😜 😜 )

Fret, you should not, young padawan. Only with time comes knowledge of the ways of The Force.
