This claims to be a "British military ref 11153059" but I can't find such a reference even if I put in some dots here and there. Any opinions?

Looks great, but as far as I know hasn't got a claim to (military) fame. The same dial can be found on a couple of Swiss cased references.

Does not appear to be a military issued watch.

11153059 is the movement serial number dating the watch to approximately 1947/1948. This watch was cased by Dennison in the UK so you will not be able to find a true reference number like you would on the caseback of Swiss-cased Omega.

Perhaps they call it "military" since it was likely produced shortly after WWII...

Military = BS...... marketing attempt..... kind regards. achim
Completely agree! Many watches have a design similar to those issued by the military around the same era. Without MoD/NATO codes on the case back or solid provenance, these are not military issue. I will say that some servicemen and women did wear civilian watches in the service or to theatres of war. But that doesn't make them military issue either.
You have a good watch in nice condition. Enjoy!
