I've also had some similar messages by PM in the last 24 hours. I was aware that I was getting either the price, the timing or presentation wrong, but the frank, helpful, advice offered by you gents has now helped me to view the matter with a degree of realistic clarity.

Selling stuff is a pain in the ass.

I second that. Even though I generally have great interactions with people when buying or selling, I sure enjoy buying a lot more.

I remember someone telling me about different stages of collecting, and how it changes your perspective once you reach the point where you feel the need to sell off some pieces. It's so true. It really makes you think twice about what you buy when you think about possibly selling it someday ... because selling stuff is a pain in the ass.

Of course, I know this is not exactly @nonuffinkbloke's situation with his family piece, and the emotional connection probably just makes things harder. Hopefully, he will get a fair price for it soon, and equally importantly, I hope it will go into good hands.
