Hello, so I just rushed-purchased an Omega Seamaster as a gift for my husband ( 10 years married) … anyhow. I don’t know anything about watches. And I bought it from a private seller. Trusting everything will go well ( ) now regretting I didn’t ask the right questions and I have probably overpaid.

I have a 14 day return window and will probably take it for a service to verify there is nothing terrible with it. In any case, I will share some pictures and I would very much appreciate what you all experts here see from them and if there is something to be alarmed with right away.

I paid 750 euros for it. It’s an Omega Seamaster 166.002 from 1966

I want to thank you all in advance for your insight!

It’s a redial and the case is quite polished. This hurts the collector value considerably but if your husband isn’t a collector and just wants a vintage watch this may not be an issue as long as you didn’t overpay

I was going to say the same thing. If your husband is a picky collector he is going to notice those issues. Otherwise he will be totally delighted with an attractive watch. Either way it’s an incredibly thoughtful gift.

Looks like the regulator is missing its swan neck and it is adjusted all the way. Not a good sign.

Well I am pretty sure I did over pay… I paid 750euros… What would be the value fro a watch like this one? My husband isn’t a collector. So he won’t be disappointed. I am however finding interesting to be more aware of what I just bought.

Thanks again

Should I be worried? I don’t quite understand what would that imply,,does this affect the function of the watch?

Hi and welcome to the forum! May I suggest browsing our for-sale section here on this foum? You will be able to make a safe purchase of an original Omega or other brand watch and could even get it in time for the holidays for your husband. Simply return the watch you bought and get him something from our site and play it safe 👍

Said another way, the movement is damaged, even if from a private seller this should be grounds for a sale cancellation/return, even if your husband isn't a vintage watch person.

Lovely thought though.

The movement is in very poor condition as well as the other points about the case and dial. As noted, the regulator spring is broken and the regulator is retarded too much, which is an indication that the movement is badly in need of a service.

As noted by @Bruce235

While your hubby may not be a collector, this gift may tickle his interest in watches, and as he learns more about watches he will learn a lot more about this one.

If it was me, I'd return it ASAP.

There are many other watches that give better value for EU750

Sorry, I was just on my way out. As said return this one and put your money towards a better one. The private sales on this forum are trustworthy.
Excellent anniversary gift idea!

This is what that part should look like.

Well I must thank you all. I will try and return it ASAP as I haven’t received it yet, on the policy on the Chrono24 app it states that the private sell is not necessarily subjected to returns but the seller did mention the option in doing so and by your description above looks like the the watch description was off as it was sold as in “ very good” condition so I hope I can return it without issues.

I will try and purchase from this site. Or ask you again before. One can only learn by doing mistakes! 😀

thanks again

I think the most obvious grounds for return is the damaged movement, as mentioned above. The regulator is broken. It can be made to work, but it's definitely not intact.
