Hmm... The DC8 Super 61 doesn't have a pilon on the leading edge of the tail... which you can see on crisp case backs, and is present on the Boeing 707.

Image below from https://www.blackbough.co.uk/

Which has led me down a rabbit hole for the last 15 minutes. ::facepalm1::

It looks like every piece written about the flightmaster post 2001 (including Monochrome, Worn & Wound, and Hodinkee) uses Chuck's piece as reference - http://chronomaddox.com/flightmasterarticle.html

And whereas he's saying "to his eye" everyone else is just stating it as fact.

Which is a bit naughty really.

Looking at the two aircraft side by side, it looks to my eye (again all opinion here 😀 ), like Omega used a bit of creative license to make a "jet age" aircraft, that wouldn't need a licensing agreement - it's got the tail of the 707, the body of the DC8 61 Super, and the nose of something else entirely! 😁

So that was a fun diversion into old passenger jets ::facepalm1::

I always thought it was a DC-9. Looking more closely I think it might be a Boeing 707.

I stick with the 707 theory too. Look at the clearly visible sting at the rudder. Something (as antenna) just the 707 had to my knowledge!

A franken! Nose is reminiscent of the Heinkel He-111 though. Propulsion of the aircraft is rather dubious, where are the donks?

You sure it's not a glider? I'm a pretty competent pilot and I don't see any engines.

Maybe it runs on hopes and dreams? 😁

Thanks everyone for the input. I’ve had some further dialogue with the seller, he was originally unresponsive but now open and talkative and I’m comfortable “buying the seller”.

He bought the watch from the original owners deceased estate sale, all functions of the watch work as they should and my assessment after reading your comments is that it’s probs an I serviced original and honest example.

I’ll be making an offer !

Alright gents, the negotiations are on..

Given all of the above, unknown service history (aka, likely needing one), is $2,500 USD a decent deal?

In the current market, where would you place the value of this if it was in perfect working order (in the same condition)?

Thanks in advance

It’s a good deal, you won’t regret it. Pull the trigger before he changes his mind. Don’t trip over pennies...

So it isn't that giant magnet that keeps it in the air?

15 minutes well spent. Thank you. 👍
Well worth reposting your whole post in "The flightmaster thread".

At just over £2000 sterling that is well worth picking up.
