Good day dear members.

I bought this lizard skin at an antique market a few years ago here in Canada.

The colour is very nice and it will make great watch straps for my local friends. (Potential CITES violations otherwise).

I’ve always wondered what kind of short, fat reptile was inside this skin? It is roughly 14 inches long and ten inches wide.

If you look at the photos you can see tail, neck/head and four limbs. A turtle perhaps?

Let me know what you think.

Thanks in advance! Steve The Church are Australian and I remember them from my University days in the late 80s. Australian folks know their reptiles!

The skin texture or the shape…. Seems to be oval with legs?
I see a neck and tail too- looks more like the belly than a top though. I looked up turtles and none have a soft belly like this. Nor do Amarillos have this smooth a texture

So it is.

There are a lot of reptiles in southeast Asia that are consumed for food or as "medicine". I wouldn't be surprised if it were one of those.

I was just saying I was surprised that you thought it was a snake (so limbless?). Yes some form of small scale and small scaled reptile seems high on the list. Nothing that fits the bill in the UK for sure.

If it had been more orange it would have been an easy pick.
