Hi guys I’m looking for a birth year watch for my Dad so I just searched that year on eBay to see what’s around and this caught my fancy but I know zilch about vintage Omega so just checking if it’s all in order. Thanks very much!

One weird thing is there’s many sellers of this exact watch (can tell by blemish on dial) on web but I can’t see any other reference to this reference anywhere else.

It's an interesting watch, but it is absurdly overpriced. Many of those Japanese sellers list watches they don't actually own. If someone buys the watch, they go and buy it and then ship it so you. What year are you looking for?

I'd also have a look on Chrono24, possibly for the same watch.

When I bought my 166.010 three years ago, various sellers in Japan had it on eBay as a BIN for £1,000+.

They didn’t have the watch, which they’d have acquired after I purchased it, just as @Dan S suggests.

The actual seller had it on Chrono24 for £561. I was just lucky.

Ok makes sense - indeed the lowest price and actual seller I believe is on Chrono24 and they’re legit.

so as for the watch itself does it all check out? Can’t see any info on it anywhere

I'm voting redial on this one. Ticks on bottom hour markers, but not on the top ones. Skeptical of the sunburst finish.

I don’t personally think that is a redial but as you say the min markers are a worry.

Oh and it’s double the price it should be.

What amount do you think is fair? I personally don’t care for the fat style of the 36912 markers but I can’t see another listed anywhere to compare it to so if it is indeed rarer I’m not sure what premium that commands. The listing on Chrono is 1450 USD.

Would a redialing not paint over the yellow blemish at 7?

I’m also looking at these 3, also 1958 from same seller by chance. In the world of vintage Omega are any of these 4 particularly special?

Nice references, but nothing particular rare or special. There are often a large number of dial variations, and some are more common than others, but generally that doesn't really affect value.

Every watch you have listed is at least double what I would pay. Some are in nice condition, but the last one seems to have a big spot on the dial, which really hurts the value.

Seamasters from this era are common on the market, and it will always be easy to buy overpriced examples. So I would suggest slowing down and following some auctions and forum sales listings to get a better sense of value. Unless you're in a hurry and don't care about money, in which case just go ahead and buy one.
