Hello all,
I recently spoke to someone who mentioned that he had a few pocket watches for sale, one of which is an 18k Jules Jergensen pocket watch 8115 (I don't know if that is the model number or serial number).
I know nothing about Jules Jergensen other than what I've seen lately while doing some research.
I'm going to see the watch this evening and was wondering if anyone could shed any light on this model?
The gentleman would like me to make an offer. I told him that due to the gold content it may be out of my price range but he said "It wouldn’t hurt to make an offer. I’m not expecting anything near the collector retail range, just a fair wholesale price."
So that's where I am with this but have NO IDEA what a fair wholesale price might be.
I have collected wristwatches for years and only recently have I come across some pocket watches that I'd like to add to my collection so I'm not very familiar with them.
I don't want to insult him with a lowball offer but I truly don't know anything about this brand or it's value, other than there are several online in the $4k-$6k range and that is certainly out of my range currently.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
P.S. He sent a video (which I tried to add to this post but couldn't) of the watch movement and it appears to be in good working order.
** The only picture of the movement I could get was a screenshot I took of the above-mentioned video.

I didn’t check eBay, but did find these, price is in USD. Prices have gone up since then, and I’m not sure what the price of gold differential would be

good luck though 👍

Hi,
so first of all, welcome to the world of pocket watches!

Jules Jurgensen made beautiful watches that are much liked by collectors. However, the value depends on many aspects, for example the movement and the winding mechanism. But let's try it.

The pics are not very great, so it is difficult to assess the watch in question. The number 8115 is the serial number and, if I can read it correctly, it appears on both, the case and the movement. The time seems to be set with the small button at 4. The center seems to have no jewel. If I am right (I am no expert in Jurgensen), it is an early keyless movement. The condition of the movement can hardly be assessed. For this, we need better pics.
So the movement seems to be a normal Jurgensen movement.

Do you know the size and the weight of the watch?
Do you know if the dial has any hairlines or if it is in immaculate condition? Personally, I would only buy the watch, if the dial is undamaged.

All this affects the price.

EBay is not a good source of information for these watches, most of them are overpriced. However, there is currently an Urban Jurgensen pocket watch for about 2600 USD where you can make an offer. Of the watches that @DaveK found, only the second one is relevant.
Although the auction is 10 years old and the gold price has gone up a bit, I would say that the price is a good indicator. Keep in mind that the watch needs a service.

So, if the dial is undamaged and the movement looks good in natural light and the case is in good condition and the case opens properly, then 2000-2500 USD can be a reasonable wholesale price.

Hope I could help a bit!
Good luck!

Thank you Oku, I agree that the second one is the only relevant one he shared as the one I'm considering is very similar to it.
As far as the dial goes, it is in perfect condition. I had a chance to personally see it today and it's beautiful.
The movement needs a service but it does run, it just doesn't keep time accurately.
it's roughly a size 12, it's smaller than a 16s but not as small as a 6.
