Greetings all,

Need the collective brains to find out what base caliber this may be. It comes out of a lovely mid-60’s JJ diver with blue dial similar to this one (the one I have is date only)


It was running when I got it, but wouldn’t set (you could feel it trying to catch but would slightly move the hands then skip).

There are no markings under the balance or anywhere else I can see other than “?SR “.



And here is where the problem lies


Other variants of this exact watch with day/date (like the one pictured above) have an ETA 2638, so I assumed it was in the same family (2637 or 2622) but comparing against this one, it doesn’t appear to be an eta.

Anyone recognize it?

MSR engraved on the movement was a major hint.

Interesting that it has a Concord import code. Maybe there was a connection between Concord and JJ.

 

Looks like you got it!! MSR T56. Not many parts out there is seems, one movement on eBay.

I remember my dad back around 1963 shopping for a new watch, we went to EJ Korvette which was an early discount department store, and they had Jules Jurgensen watches in their jewelry department. I don't think my dad ever heard of the name, but the watches looked nice and they weren't too expensive, about $25 which was about as much as he would ever think of paying for a watch. He didn't buy one.

 

Every one I have encountered has been well made with quality parts. From what I have seen they were a brand for department stores- probably one of their “better” brands with a fancy sounding name.

 

So found an article on MSR. It appears they supplied movements to Revue And Vulcain as well. They rolled out their ball bearing rotor in ‘67 which gels with the time period of this- probably around ‘70
