Help Identifying

Hi thanks for letting me join.
I recently received this Seamaster watch from my aunt as an heirloom. She told me that it belonged to her late uncle who was a British Naval Officer in the 50s and 60s and that he bought it in Hong Kong.
Despite countless searches, I am unable to identify it, that’s where I am looking for some help here and possibly any idea of its worth.
Thank You in advance

Quartz Seamaster , if everything checks out, maybe around $ 400. For more answers remove the back and report all writing inside the case back

All the information you seek is found on the Inside of the Watch. A watchmaker will be able to open the back for you and tell you the case reference (which you can use to look up lots of details on omega vintage website)
https://www.omegawatches.com/vintage-watches

Once you have that information-
The best way to get an idea of the price is to search eBay for previous sales of that model.

good luck. Hope you find out some interesting information.

The reason you can't find it is it sounds like you are looking in the wrong era. This is from circa 1980 and wont have had any obvious military connection. It may have been bought in Hong Kong but it wont have been in the 50s or 60s that is for certain.

Personally I think the estimate above might be a little generous. These models are not really in demand from collectors so maybe nearer $300 if working might be nearer the mark.

EDIT: I note I am more pessimistic than the contributors above and below me, partly this is because of the damaged crystal and non original bracelet. As ever, it is worth what someone is wiling to pay so perhaps I am too low.

I was going to to say that yours, assuming it’s as nice as it appears in the photos, is worth a little more than has been suggested.

I’ve googled and had a look at eBay for sale and sold (as you should have done) and think that one like yours, working and in good condition should be worth around £500.

Yours is a particularly nice example in that it has only a date window (personally I’m not keen on day windows) and is stainless steel, both easier to clean, not susceptible to gp rubbing and far more wearable (both smart or casual) in this day and age.

Exactly that!

Best way to 'find' your watch online:

Search for

Omega Seamaster Quartz

and combine this with different years like

1980, 1979, 1978 etc.

Looking at the lug shape it could be a 1978 model

@cristos71

seem to have the same one with a different dial

https://omegaforums.net/threads/vintage-omega-quartz-are-they-worth-collecting.109426/

Possible reference number could be 196.0079 but -as said above- the watch must be opened to be shure

haha yeah, that's the problem. €200 might be a right value for them if you're buying them at a pawn shop or garage sale but finding any Omega online selling for sub €200 right now is almost impossible, it happens, but not very often, not even for Quartz watches.

😀 If you come across a stainless steel, like @Garyo57's, I’d be interested to know.
