Hi everyone,

I've bee lurking for a while and my desire to amass a vintage watch collection has been growing. I decided to sign up and post a watch I've been looking at, as I've had some trouble trying To determine the model, it's year, and any other significant information such as value. Disclaimer: I am not looking to buy and resell. This information is just for my knowledge and to not over pay for pieces I want to collect, wear, and eventually pass down.

It's a nice 10k GF watch with a 550 cal 17 jewel movement. The dial looks good; however, I can't tell if it has some fading/ discoloration or if it's an effect from the camera. Case back is rather beat up, I'd prefer to replace it with a nice Omega CB that is representative of its model -- not a blank back like the one it has which makes me think it could have been for engraving (award/ ceremonial gift). Doesn't come with a band -- I'll buy a nice leather band and probably put a rhd deployment clasp on it. So without further wait - the pics:

Hi Mr Ling
it's a lovely watch -but the movement condition (which looks great) doesn't seem to match the case condition.
I will state here and now that I am no expert -but the serial number suggests 1968 and the Omega data base for the case suggests 1964.

Perhaps others more experienced can comment.
BTW the case back is great -and right for the watch -except that it looks as though some muppet has tried to use a tin opener to get into it.馃槨

Thank you for your input. I agree regarding the dates. At least the seller had indicated a date ~1950s but by serial number from movement I'm coming up with 1968-1969.

if you look at the the omega data base link -it says the case design was created in 1960 -so not that far off '1950's' -but your case reference (6304) dates to 1964.
It notes 'international collection ' -which would accord with the 'unadjusted' on the movement (often on US watches)
It also describes the watch well -GF case, cal 550, etc.
the 27.13m serial number suggest early in the '68-'70 range
Note -the data base has been known to be inaccurate!

What numbers are you putting into the Omega database? This watch has a U.S. Made case and none of the numbers on it will be relevant (they are the case makers #s not Omega reference #s). So I'm not sure where you're coming up with 1964.

Looks like a muppet could have done a better job.

Ref LU 6304 actually is in the database, the 1964 date corresponds to the introduction of the case, so the serial number seems fine since the case style was likely available for many years.

Mr. ling I would strongly suggest you pass on this watch. It is a gold filled U.S. Made case, not very desirable, and is rather beat up. You would be far better off buying a watch in the condition you desire than try ing to "fix" a poor example (both from a frustration and financial standpoint).

Did not realize any of the U.S. made case numbers were in the database, thanks Norm!

crossed posts -the 6304 case back number appears to identify the watch pretty much spot on -and it notes '64
( is that not correct?
-I did say I wa son expert!馃榾

Thank you all for your help. I happened to also find a really nice Hamilton that I've been less successful in getting information on. If possible I may post some pics in this thread for advice, if that's okay?
