I have some similar questions about the quick set date function on cal. 565, but first, I just want to say thank you to all the people on OF that share so much of their knowledge, especially @Archer who seems to be sharing his bountiful wisdom in every thread I click on.

My very kind watchmaker gave me an Omega 565 to tinker with (well, I'm sure I'll give him some $$ for it at some point). Most of the date components are missing, so I've been researching this part of the movement the last couple days.

Here is the movement in it's current state:

(The lighting is really bad in my dining room, possibly causing the movement to look much rougher than it actually is.)

I know that I will need a date indicator wheel and hour wheel, and, based on this thread, it seems I might want to replace the date indicator driving wheel with updated part 563 1564, is that correct?

I've started looking into the missing date indicator guard as well. I found the below part on ebay, it would be around $40 shipped. Does that seem reasonable for this item? It sounds like I would want to hunt down part 563 1530 to replace this older version of the date corrector as well. Is that right?

My plan is to get this movement back to it's complete state, use it to complete a 166.041 I have a dial, case, and handset for (still need to order a crown), and then take it back my watchmaker for a service. This is my first Omega project after doing Nick Hacko's DIY Seiko Project that @JimInOz recommended in a thread at one point.

I'm interested in what others think about the project I'm outlining here... Does it seem too advanced or just plain hair-brained for someone of my very basic experience level? If not, does it seem like I'm on the right track? I'm pretty sure if I put $100 or so into the missing / outdated parts, my watchmaker would take another $100 for the movement in the state you see it above + cost of a service.

The other side of the movement seems to be in good shape. With a wind from the stem or rotor, the balance starts running, so I'm hoping there is a good chance it's not missing any parts on that side.

I'm really enjoying learning a bit about watchmaking through projects like this and the Seiko course I mentioned above. Any tips, feedback, criticism, etc anyone is willing to share would be very much appreciated.

Here are the other parts I have procured for this project. I spent about $250 on the case, dial and hands (hope to replace the blue sweep seconds with an orange at some point, which is correct for this reference and dial combination from what I have seen.)

One last thing... my watchmaker has an Omega account, would it be more cost effective to send him a list of the parts we need here instead of hunting them down online myself (although I am enjoying the detective work.)

Thanks OF!

Looks like you have a project to keep you busy 👍.

Can't offer much technical help as I'm yet to experience one of these calibers.

I'm not sure how your watchmaker feels about sourcing parts from Omega and basically on-selling them to you. As I understand it, the account is only for the watchmaker to purchase spares for his business and if Omega found out he was on-selling, he could risk his account with Omega.

@Archer may be able to clarify.

Besides, half the fun and satisfaction in the end is knowing how hard it was and how long it took to get to the finish.

Thanks for the insight, Jim.

...and also enjoying all the knowledge you wind up acquiring a long the way 👍
