It’s very rare. Few have been fυcked up as badly as that.
Not sure what you think is repainted...are you thinking the mil 24hr time is the repaint? Omega made special watches that were for the military and not civ sale...I know this watch comes poss from the late 40s 50s and my dad was in ww2 and eventually canada...all opinions welcomed
Not sure what you think is repainted...
It definitely isn't a military issue watch, 2577s were never made that way so it has been refinished that way. This era of watches had very poor water resistance and moisture intrusion and damage to the dial was very common which is why so many of them have been repainted. This one just isn't repainted accurately.
Still a nice heirloom to keep given the family history but the value is very little as a result of the refinished dial.
Depending on your insurance policy, and the coverage you want to carry on the Omega, you may presently have coverage without doing anything. Your policy may have coverage for unscheduled items, or otherwise called a personal property floater. These clauses cover items that are not considered household items. Expensive cameras, original art, coin, stamp, jewellery, or watch collections may not be covered as household items. So you’d need a rider to cover these items. These riders may not cover every exigency, but they cover a lot of circumstances. If you insure the watch and you were to lose it or have it stolen, there’s no way you’d be able to insure the sentimental value. Should you insure it? Talk to your insurance company about unscheduled items, and or a personal property floater, then decide. Find out what your deductible is. If the watch appraises at around the amount of your deductible, don’t insure it.

Your family member had the dial done to his taste. Embrace it.
Ditch the band and put on a leather strap. The "stretchies" have springs that press the ends against the internal side of the lugs wearing through the plating. They destroy the watch every time it's handled.
If you stick around, you'll find that we are overwhelmed with inquiries of: "I just paid $XXX for this watch, tell me what it's worth". Some quick witted responses come often. I've done a few.
Hang around. Someone here will probably be able to help guide you to a watchmaker who can help.
