Help before buying

Hi. I found this watch online.

The lady said it’s genuine but doesn’t have papers due to a long time ago, passed down from family. This line might be from 1980s or 1990s. Quartz.

She said not sure if fully working but the following day she took it to the jewellers and had battery fitted (not timpsons) and showed me a photo receipt of it (£40) and she said it’s definitely working now.

She said battery fee will not be added to the price of the Watch. Since we both live in the same city, we agreed to meet this weekend at a coffee shop so I can see the watch in person.

Is there anything I need to check to ensure it’s genuine, not counterfeit?

This watch is quite scratched and the scuffs on steel shows wear. However on eBay, mint condition ranges from £950-£1500. Had diamonds around bezel.

I compared it to the same models on Chrono24 and I would say pretty close match. I also called the jewellers and they said they remember the lady and didn’t suspect it would be counterfeit but they couldn’t not guarantee without me paying £200 for a valuer to check the watch (this is usually for insurance purposes I think)

Any advice or guidance on what to check on the day I see it in person would be good. And any red flags I need to know about so far that points to it being fake?

Thanks in advance.

This looks genuine to me. This is a pretty obscure model and it is unlikely that there are fakes out there. It is known as the Omega Constellation Quadra. Omega Site Information. I have linked the official Omega website info on the watch. Ref, 1528.46.00. Please keep in mind that the market for Lady's Omegas is very soft. Be sure not to pay too much for it. More so for a quartz than a mechanical watch. There is a lot more supply for Lady's watches than demand.

What is asking price? Doubt you would need insurance valuation for this one.

Sold prices range from $445 to $999 on eBay. You might add it to your policy, but I would probably skip an insurance estimate. Replacement value, If I were to guess, would be twice that.

It’s £350 so around $470 due to the steel metal being quite scuffed but that could be buffed out lightly I think but the scuffs add character.

I’m not bothered about insurance. £350 is hardly worth the hassle.

I’m meeting the lady tomorrow to see it in person so will check serial number, briefly look at craftmanship and if it’s keeping time.

I’m not bothered about insurance. More to do with getting checked by the jewellers.

I’m just doing a bit of due diligence before buying it to make sure it’s genuine. I found it on Vinted but funnily we live in the same city so agreed to meet up.. just worked out that way.

Like I don’t wanna be confused by the sizzle and hard sell from her tomorrow that I accidentally purchased a fake watch is all.

That’s why I’m checking with the knowledgeable experts on this platform to see any red flags or if this is a bad idea.

Sadly the seller cancelled our meeting very last minute, said no longer selling due to sentimental reasons.. what a shame.

I have had good luck buying from Japan. Watch for over polishing, but I have had good luck. Just make sure the bracelet is long enough for you.
