Hi everybody, I'm Mike. New to the forum but have been lurking awhile. I'm hoping to learn some more about vintage omegas that will help me make my first vintage watch purchase. I've already learned a lot from here but there is so much more to learn! Thanks for creating this wonderful resource.

    Cheers,

    Mike

    Hi Mike and welcome!
Happy to have you join us and good luck hunting!

You are going about it the right way, observe, educate, inquire.
Your first will always be special, so try to avoid the "noob" tax that many of us have paid moving too quickly.
Are you just looking for one nice watch to wear? Budget? Likes and dislikes?

Thanks guys! My middle initial is J too ;).

To answer Uncle Buck, I am looking for a nice watch to wear. I'm thinking of a Seamaster with 56x movement, but I am open to others if the opportunity presents itself. I think I'll stay away from the constellations right now (no matter how beautiful they are...) as they REALLY seem like a minefield!

565 and 552 movements are plentiful, reliable, easily serviced (I’m told) and parts are readily available (I’m told).

For what it’s worth, I think you’re right to look for an automatic.
