Sensational journalism…….why let the facts get in the way of a good story!
Doom, gloom and misery are always good fodder for the pedlars of over inflated, hyped up bullshit.
All so rich bastard pricks like Rupert Murdock can get even richer.
Humans are instinctively hardwired to pay attention to anything that might alert them to a threat, it’s herd behaviour, if one of the herd calls out an alert we can’t help but listen, but by and large as individuals we aren’t so good at determining what constitutes a real threat, so we often over react and blunder in with out a clue.
Indeed the resulting stampede is usually more dangerous than the original threat.

Wouldn't the cost of shipping two ways be greater than the cost of purchasing a new one?

I'll have you know that my wife says this watch is a "conversation piece." 😎

You know how they say the definition of “ambivalence” is your mother-in-law driving over a cliff in your new Mercedes? I don’t know whether to feel heartened or disgusted that not just America is going to shit…

Both were insured, right?

Win - win!

Not so fast @MRC and Visit Cambridge Marketing Board

Internet : home of bad news for everyone.😉

Station hit by flying bomb? I don't think the risk of being hit by a Fieseler Fi-103 is high this century.

First time traveling to London, Paris, Florence, and Rome. Staying in 5 star hotels with small group. My daily is a, just now, 1 year old Planet Ocean. After reading several articles on watch theft in Europe my question to someone with more experience than me is wear it or put it in the safe and wear my knock around watch (stainless Casio G-Shock Utility)? In addition to the bracelet I have a black alligator with deployment, a black textured rubber with deployment and a black NAT0. All are Omega straps. Wore the watch to St. Martin a couple of times and the attitude there was it was just another shinny dive watch!
Wear what you want. Should not have to be controlled like this. A watch is for wearing. Just like nice cars, not to worry about having crash. Get in and drive on with your nice watches.

I had an odd experience yesterday. Wife and I have been travelling in Switzerland and France, in the Bordeaux and Cognac regions, for the last three weeks and were flying back to Zurich from the Bordeaux.airport. At the security checkpoint you can keep your shoes on but your belt has to come off, plus all electronic equipment (phones, tablets, laptops) have to be put in the tray, plus every drop of liquid you have has to pulled out and put in a tray. People were scrambling to jump through that hoop, and then at the last second they REQUIRE you to remove your watch and put it in the tray with the electronic stuff. I was not going to dump a $6k Speedmaster and my wife's $10k steel Datejust in a tray and then lose sight of them for a minute or two. I grabbed my laptop bag which was just about to go on to the conveyor belt and put the two watches in a zippered compartment. I can never remember being required to remove my watch during security. Some might say to just put it away as common practice but it is never good practice to be removing a watch in an area where it could be dropped and damaged, my watch stays on my wrist once I leave home. So this was a new one on me. Travelling is stressful enough without having to lose control of your watch.

I'm curious about your experiences going through customs on your way home.

I talked with customs folks upon arrival in Ireland to ask about proving that I arrived with my watch on my wrist so that I would have no trouble leaving. They looked at me like I was crazy. Then returning to the USA was a non-event.

After reading about people getting fined for traveling through customs with multiple watches, I was probably a bit paranoid. I'm curious to hear if you experienced anything different passing through Switzerland, i.e. did customs specifically question you two about your watches?

Hope you're enjoying the trip. You missed alot of smoke back home.

You’re going to Europe, staying in nice hotels and neighborhoods. You’re not going to Chicago or downtown LA.
In London, Paris, or Florence nobody will even notice your PO. Common sense applies just like anywhere else in the world. Don’t leave things in hotel safes (anywhere), go through sketchy neighborhoods at night (anywhere), and don’t hang with hookers (anywhere) - and you’ll be fine.
How long are you going for? That’s quite the list of places that are not exactly close to each other. I hope it’s not one of those “discover Europe in ten days” trips. I would pick one or maybe two of those places and explore. And yes, with a decent watch on.

I plan to travel to the US, should I wear a bulletproof vest and a helmet ?

the respective perceptions and what the “media” coverage and the interwebs have done to us is amazing. And yes, there are places where common sense dictates to stay away from. But that’s true anywhere in the Western world. And certainly beyond that.

I'm in the "leave it at home camp". I prefer to be able to go anywhere,do anything without worrying.

I once went to Venezuela, and the guy beside me on the plane was wearing a Rolex. And here I specifically chose my oldest clothes, and plainest shoes, with my Timex, to not stand out. 😀

In Rio and Buenes Aires I've seen people with very expensive watches. But they were local and we were in high end areas.

I live in Amsterdam but I don't wear my Rolexes anymore. Same for my (new) vintage 18K Longines chrono. On the other end: never heard of Speedy's being taken....
