As a bonus I found a tiny inscription by a watchmaker: 17688 MA 1975. Could not see that with the naked i😁

One of my favorite things is taking a runner on a watch that has a messed-up crystal and finding a nice, undamaged dial underneath. You might have gotten a good watch there. It’s often reasonably economical to source a replacement crystal. I don’t know about the crown, but get it serviced and enjoy wearing that handsome son-of-a-gun.

It's weird how bad those original photos were. There seemed to be a big spot on the dial and the finish on the movement looked terrible. With the new photos it looks like a nice watch.

Does anyone know what crown should be on this Seamaster? Appreciate your help, as I do not have sufficient access to parts lists.

Well that is just astonishing, the difference in the seller photos and yours. Congratulations and I am delighted to be proved wrong!

I think you did OK with that. Price of nicely original 60s SM seem to be on the way up, didn't note whether you paid $400 or £, either way, I recently happily paid £350 for a similar (not identical, a front loader pre-Deville) with a BOR trade-trade, which once serviced will probbaly sell for c.£600-700.

interesting thread, thanks. All I can focus on is the wonky M in Automatic. Maybe it is distortion from the glass, or a divot in the glass, but it looks odd.

That’s pure distortion, in real life it looks normal. I agree with you, it looks weird on the photo.

How odd. Normally distortion changes a bit with different angles, but this looks roughly the same in all your pics.
Either way - congrats on getting lucky based on those horrible pics! Think you got off pretty good on it all.

On a side note;
I never really reflected on it saying 'Swiss made T' at the bottom of these. Then again, I mainly handle pre-Tritium watches. 😀
Just always figured it would be 'T Swiss made T' on these as well.

Interesting, I did not notice that before👎
As far as my limited knowledge of tritium dials is concerned you are absolutely right. However, neatly alligned, as well as minute markers.
