Have you ever seen this kind of a redial on UG Tricompax?

Hi guys,

I got this watch and I know that it does not look like the normal dial so I guess its a redial. During my research I just never saw anything like it. The numbers on the date subdial look totally different than the typical UG. The Kilometres A L'heuere etc. What should I make of it? Is it like a complete fake dial? Or a service dial or what could it be?
Based on the serial number, the watch must be around 1945. My dad got the watch at a fair at Netherlands for around €3.3k.

I would loose the dial and find a commission a watchmaker to make a spaceview like dial for it. as actually looks better without a that dial.

Hey @Diabolik Could you explain? not sure what you mean. I am just learning.. Thanks!
Well, I am being a little cynical. The dial is so bad that the watch looks better without one.

Well, it’s a redial but wow what a “steam punk” show! Someone really spent some time on it and didn’t care to even try to match the original. Hands are a mess. You need at least a full set and a dial.

@Larry S Who were doing those kind of redials back then? I don't get the amount of work done for that and doing it completely different. Was is random or did someone ordered a redial like that? Just trying to understand the history...

With UG, there was dial customization at the dealer level. It was quite common also to order a re dial, these are not waterproof, people smoked like chimneys. Lots of people did them. No one cared if collectors in 2026 would be judging them. Mists of time. You will never know. If you like it, just sort the hands and a movement service. It was your dad’s watch. As is, it has some parts value to a collector and melt value to a jewelry / we buy precious metals shop.
