A son of Norwich I’m truly sorry hear of the ‘Far From Fine’ service @j_leb and others have experienced from the Fine Watch Club in Norwich.

Perhaps off topic I’m curious if the name of the business is deliberately a play upon the famous strap-line of the ‘A Fine City’ signs that greet you at various entry points: Newmarket Road, Sprowston Road, Ipswich Road, Aylsham Road etc.

Bought a Speedmaster reduced from them via their eBay store, was fine for a few days but then wouldn't run unless I set the chronograph running, think I posted about it on here asking about the issue. Reported it through eBay and they just got me to send me the watch back and refunded me, didnt offer to repair and return just a straight refund. Did cost me the price of returning to them though

I was considering a drive up to Norwich tomorrow to check out their stock before reading this thread. Now I shall do some more research first.
I don't have any issue with dealers charging for their services, after all they have to earn a living. But in return I expect that the item be well sourced, correctly described, backed with a reliable warranty etc. The smart dealers out there will do that, because they want to sell to you again and again over the years rather than rip you off once.

I asked FWC recently about a listing's originality and they responded promptly that the dial had been repainted, which was also in the listing.

It also makes sense, to me anyway, about having a shop that's not open to the public. A retail shop is an inefficient way to sell to a niche market, just waiting for people to show up. And given the product they might get loads of tyre kickers, and they have to open and lock cabinets constantly etc. What does make sense is having one as a cheap place to store stock, to meet buyers by appointment, and to give buyers a (false?) sense of confidence.
Just my 2 cents. Thanks all for sharing this info. 👍

I think we shouldn’t be too hard on these dealers. I wouldn’t have bought a new omega with my insurance payout, and his website inspired my interest in vintage watches. I knew no better, wouldn’t have known to look for a place like this and if I’m honest, was too impatient to wait and learn. I’m grateful to Fine Watch Club for setting me on my journey into vintage watches.

As my mother-in-law says, everyone’s entitled to make a living.
Didn’t you ask us to remind you of this thread? 😉

There you go:
Well having been one who posted in defence of FWC, not just here but in other threads, this has totally turned me around.

But my memory is bad so if I ever do do again I hope people will remind me of this.

As others have said, his refusal to send further pictures and the way he responded suggests he had something to hide.

I think you probably dodged a bullet there.

Edit /add, oops, just realized @Engee’s defense indeed was from a while ago. Well at least now we have it all in one place.
