A good looking watch for sure! I've been very critical of Omega's recent releases, but this one is a keeper!

And this would have made sense if the red "stripe" was the red on the chronograph hand, which is very much a stripe of red. The red "Speedmaster" text is essentially identical to the red Seamaster text on the standard SMP, which is a sportier, more modern design. I don't buy for one second that making the Speedmaster text red in an absolute picture perfect image of the SMP text has anything to do with astronaut stripes. Not to mention that the red of the chrono hand doesn't even appear to be the same color as the red speedy text.

As I said, I'm likely to be in the minority. Pretty wild how one little detail can make so much difference to one person and not matter at all to many others!

Interesting and detailed take. I generally like the pop of red text, but would have appreciated it equally as a delicate gesture reminiscent of the Bond boutonniere, as you suggest. Reminiscent of the Seiko "stoplight" flourish. Small, but meaningful, though the shade seems darker.

I expect that with younger / better eyes than mine all of this matters more. If OF has taught me anything, it's never to look at a watch any closer than 30cm. That's the point where dissatisfaction and the "can't unsee it" begins.

I don't like the "Daniel Craig" part of the title of the topic.
The watch is fine.

Just saw someone on Facebook refer to this watch as the "Stormtrooper". Wonder if that'll catch on?

Local AD said they’re going to “loyal customers” first…I told them I’ll give the gray market my money…

Some cheek for an entry level brand.

It would be great if it weren't nicknamed after space nazis.

Doesn't this make sense from a business perspective? If I owned a business, I'd give preferential treatment to those who have been loyal to my business.

Do we really care what some idiot on the internet calls it?

So what do you suggest? Should they give the watches to non loyal customers first?

Not everyone has the means to buy a Canopus and I feel this will be as close as if not better than Canopus for a lot of people.
Agreed! As lovely as the Canopus Gold was to have on the wrist at my local AD, owning one is just not realistic for my current financial goals. However, this new white dial release creates an opportunity to have a light dial example at a somewhat more “obtainable” price.
White for modern Speedy, black for vintage.

Pretty smart of Omega.
I was thinking a similar sentiment when it was finally released. The modern black dialed stainless steel Speedmasters really never did anything for me as I always liked the appeal and charm of the vintage models. Yes there have been technological advances to the movement, but for me that wasn’t enough to push me towards purchasing a modern example. With the white dial being a non-limited release, Omega is now offering something that was never an option before so the modern example is the only choice. And for that reason, plus the aesthetics of the white dial, I like it and think it is a good release.

I don't have the 3861 so I was contemplating a Speedy anyway and this pretty much did it for me. The Omega boutique said they needed a deposit that was payment in full now to take delivery in the second quarter. My local AD was offering it with a 20% deposit, delivery sometime this year. I like my AD so I went with that, paying the 8K up front seemed like a steep hill to climb

I stopped by the SF OB today to take a look at the white dial Speedmaster. They had one that you could look at but not try on. 🙄

The white step dial with black indices is gorgeous. It would have been nicer Omega had used enamel or ZrO2 instead but I don't think either have been used for step dials.

Overall, this watch checks a few boxes that I don't currently have on a Speedy Pro; a white dial, a 3861 movement, sapphire crystal and a transparent caseback.

If the OB had one for sale, I would have purchased it on the spot. Putting down a full deposit for a watch that will eventually be readily available doesn't make a lot of sense to me especially since the OB 15 miles south is only asking for a $1,000 deposit.

Agreed...I actually placed my deposit on it already...then thought about the immediate depreciation I take and got my full deposit back the next day (buyers remorse?)...instead purchased a NEW Diver 300 SMP "polar" of Great White (with black band), which for me also checked all the boxes too - got a major steal off ebay..from a company I've bought from before, Authenticity Guarantee, 5 yr warranty, new w/ box & papers, AND an extra 10% off ebay coupon!! Couldn't pass it up...paid less than half what I was going to pay for the Speedy!!! I'm stoked, can't wait to get it on my wrist!

I tried it on today while travelling through Sydney, Australia... first day they had a display version. (Also got to try on a Snoopy, finally, but that's another story). I really liked it, as did my wife. I pledged I'd get a Speedy for an upcoming major birthday; and I still don't know which version to get. Both great, but feel and wear differently. I don't think anyone can go wrong getting one of these though! And indices and hands definitely display as black.
