I bought this Hamilton Chronograph Automatic about 12 to 14 years ago. It’s spent a lot of time in a drawer, but I pulled it out and put a new band on it. Here’s a few pics in poor lighting:

I’ve decided to take it to a local watchmaker for evaluation of condition and a service and rate calibration. It loses about 20 seconds per day.

My question is as follows: is 20 seconds a day an acceptable rate loss for a watch like this, or do you think it can be substantially improved? I suspect it’s not worth a lot and so I’m a bit torn about the cost of a service. But I do like the watch and would like it to be maintained and more accurate if possible. It’s never been serviced.

    Thank you!

These have a nice robust Valjoux 7750 based movement which have no problem keeping time withing 10 sec or better when properly serviced.

If this hasn't been serviced as you note, it's past due.
