In today's Washington Post an article on doughnut regions of the USA.

What's your impression @Mad Dog?

I don’t eat doughnuts very often…I will have one doughnut per year [on my birthday] at Dunkin’. With that said, I’m not well versed regarding doughnut regions in the U.S.

I am, however, well versed regarding Dunkin’ locations in the U.S. since I buy/chug Dunkin’ coffee like a freaking maniac. I would agree with the map regarding Dunkin’ concentrations/locations since I travel to many regions of the U.S. due to my job.

Bonus pics of routine Dunkin’ B.O.J. chugfests…

…at the office…

…at home…

Just made still warm basic Krispy Kreme. I don’t have them very often, but there is no substitute.

Can't remember the last time I ate a doughnut. Ice-cream though, would eat it every day if I could. I don't like dairy, anything that tastes like it came from an actual cow makes me sick, so when I say I like ice cream, it has to be the worst kind of industrial artificial crap that can be found. In other words I don't really like ice cream.
I wonder what foods that most people like other forum members can't stand?

Having had these, I do wonder what is so special about them. Is this something from your childhood?

So. Cal boy originally- Winchell’s for the win if it’s actually donuts you’re going for. Living in the mid-Atlantic for the last 28 years, this place is a wasteland of Dunkin.

I concur with the small brand fiefdoms. Voodoo donuts is an unfortunate tourist attraction; they are not horrible but they aren't good.

Doe doughnuts is phenomenal! And they are vegan. They are more of a french pastry than a doughnut.

I lived in a small rural community that had an elementary school, grange, a convenience store, and a Quaker church. The church had a youth basketball league, and they served fresh-made cake doughnuts for concessions. They were just plain cake doughnuts no filing or glaze, but they would be fresh out of the fryer. They were the best doughnuts ever, other than that the nearest town had a Winchell's and Safeway doughnuts. I was not too impressed with the commercial offerings.

Dunks is certainly the mainstream king of New England donuts, and a good old fashioned or glazed does the trick for me. But a few great local spots include:

Kanes (Saugus, Ma) - childhood favorite
The Holy Donut (Portland, Maine)
PVDonuts (Providence, RI)
Union Square Donuts (Somerville, Ma)
Blackbird (South End, Boston)

If you’re ever in Philly go to Federal Donuts. Their donuts and chicken are off the chain.

Love Dunkin' since I was a kid when the first Dunkin' Donuts hit Fort Worth, Texas in the mid(?) 1960s. It took Mad Dog to especially turn me on to their coffee though, the consumption of which gives a person that unique Mad Dog vibe, or jitters as the case may be when consumed in authentic Mad Dog mass quantities.

Dunkin' really needs to compensate Mad Dog for the Omega Forums exposure they enjoy.

Hit Krispi Kreme a few times in the South then really warmed up to their donuts after they came to Texas in the early(?) 2000s.

H Donuts is a local donut shop owned by the sweetest Vietnames family you ever saw. I eat a maple frosted H Donut at the Thursday morning coffee I generally attend.

Oh, and cake donuts are superior to bread donuts.

Dunkin used to be good when they made stuff on-site. Corporatization made them suck. Now we just go to the local Shore Good Dounts!

Yeah, it was fun watching the Dunkin' Donuts kitchen through the big window provided when I was a kid.

Seems their donuts taste about the same though.

There used to be a branch of Dunkin' in Farringdon Road in the early 1970s, a great place for a donut on my way to the Old Bailey, as a trainee.
