·I ended up going to the new Portland Omega Boutique to send my Railmaster (whose automatic works seem a mess!) in for a service, and disliking the one in Beaverton Oregon, went to the one in downtown Portland (@ErichPryde @pdxleaf !).
The store itself is a pretty small one, though is apparently a part of the Ben Bridge right next door. It was maybe a 12ft x15ft showroom with quite a collection on two walls, plus a glass case, all filled with Omegas. There were 3 folks working there, and Kenny helped me out.
After dealing with my Railmaster send-back, we chatted quite a bit about watches we have, etc, then I asked to see the two new Speedies. In BOTH cases, the photos don't do them justice. The white Speedmaster has a 'depth' to it that is really attractive, as well as a nice ivory color. The bracelet is really light/thin, tapering down much smaller than the Tokyo 1861 I was wearing. It DID have the same 'oyster-with-stripes' style.
The new FOIS is really lovely too. It had a more traditional Oyster looking bracelet that was ALSO very light/delicate feeling. This was my first look at a crown-guard-less Speedmaster, but I didn't find it particularly noticable. What I DID find noticable was the starburst-type dial! Unlike my black Speedmaster, which is a matte black, this was a sunburst/starburst/esque dial, still black, but very vibrant!
In the end, I asked about them, and he said, "we don't do exhibition only watches here, but these are the only ones of either of these, so we're waiting to sell them until we get more in". So, impulse-buy on the white-speedy was prevented today, though he offered to give me a call if they ended up getting one anytime soon. He DID mention there were "2 or 3" that they have in that state, but I didn't ask about what the third was, and there was no Snoopy there 😀
One thing that WAS interesting, is he and the women that were there oogled my Tokyo Yellow Ring Speedmaster a bunch, and mentioned they had never seen one in person, and actually had a customer that kept asking if they ever got one in (which of course they do not).
Anyway, a simple trip report. I might end up with the white Speedmaster someday, but today was not that day. Else it was a lovely time chatting with Kenny.
