Got to see the new Speedmasters!

I ended up going to the new Portland Omega Boutique to send my Railmaster (whose automatic works seem a mess!) in for a service, and disliking the one in Beaverton Oregon, went to the one in downtown Portland (@ErichPryde @pdxleaf !).

The store itself is a pretty small one, though is apparently a part of the Ben Bridge right next door. It was maybe a 12ft x15ft showroom with quite a collection on two walls, plus a glass case, all filled with Omegas. There were 3 folks working there, and Kenny helped me out.

After dealing with my Railmaster send-back, we chatted quite a bit about watches we have, etc, then I asked to see the two new Speedies. In BOTH cases, the photos don't do them justice. The white Speedmaster has a 'depth' to it that is really attractive, as well as a nice ivory color. The bracelet is really light/thin, tapering down much smaller than the Tokyo 1861 I was wearing. It DID have the same 'oyster-with-stripes' style.

The new FOIS is really lovely too. It had a more traditional Oyster looking bracelet that was ALSO very light/delicate feeling. This was my first look at a crown-guard-less Speedmaster, but I didn't find it particularly noticable. What I DID find noticable was the starburst-type dial! Unlike my black Speedmaster, which is a matte black, this was a sunburst/starburst/esque dial, still black, but very vibrant!

In the end, I asked about them, and he said, "we don't do exhibition only watches here, but these are the only ones of either of these, so we're waiting to sell them until we get more in". So, impulse-buy on the white-speedy was prevented today, though he offered to give me a call if they ended up getting one anytime soon. He DID mention there were "2 or 3" that they have in that state, but I didn't ask about what the third was, and there was no Snoopy there 😀

One thing that WAS interesting, is he and the women that were there oogled my Tokyo Yellow Ring Speedmaster a bunch, and mentioned they had never seen one in person, and actually had a customer that kept asking if they ever got one in (which of course they do not).

Anyway, a simple trip report. I might end up with the white Speedmaster someday, but today was not that day. Else it was a lovely time chatting with Kenny.

Wow. I didn't realize there was a boutique in Portland. Do they function as the other Omega boutiques with the latest inventory, or is it a sort of "Omega boutique pop-up"? 😀

Having been putt off by the Beaverton store (despite my past purchases) I never even thought of exploring Portland, and made my impulse purchase of the new turquoise Seamaster AT at the Vegas boutique after seeing it in person. I didn't know it existed before discovering in the case after walking in.

Now that I know there's a Portland location, I might drop in for an occasional visit.

My understanding is it is permanent, and a part of the Ben Bridge next door. They had a bunch of the latest inventory as far as I could tell! They seemed really nice and a good place to be.

The Beaverton location and I have had our differences as well 😀

I gave them 3 chances.

I went trying to by my first Speedmaster there, and they treated me like crap, basically not allowing me into the building to even take a look. So I bought one online. I decided I wanted the sailcloth strap, so I went in to ask to order it, and the woman there told me that "all we can do is show you the website, so you need to go home and just do that yourself".

3rd time was the only positive experience because the woman was gone and only the older guy was there. He charged me (over charged based on MSRP :/) for the strap + deployant, which despite what the woman had said the previous time, they had in stock. However, he kind of made a mess of the underside of my lugs. It cleaned up reasonably with a cape cod cloth, and I don't even look at the bottom of watches, but I was pretty grumpy about it.

ADDITIONAL THING I remembered: the white Speedy is a clear caseback. I am typically not a fan of clear casebacks, they tend to add nothing to the watch except a view of a giant piece of plate metal for the rotor. But the 3861 is an absolutely gorgeous movement.

Welcome to the forum! It is both validating and frustrating at the same time to hear that so many of us have had less than Stellar experiences at the Beaverton AD.

Yeah, it is pretty reassuring to find out that Smith and Beville are just awful to everyone. Makes me feel better about my experiences somehow 😀

@ErichKeane was Kenny the gentleman wearing a planet ocean with orange numerals? That watch was beautiful (I'd never seen it in person up close).

Yes, it's a small location but really not worse for that. I went back to look at the new ND SMP again a few days again and to look at the pink Ladies Aqua Terra.

He wasn't when I was there, he was wearing what looked to be a blue/white AT. But in talking to him, he has quite a few watches, including at least a stainless Rolex DJ.

So, I failed 😀 Kenny got confirmation that he could order a White Speedmaster and that it SHOULD take 4-8 weeks (to be confirmed next week), so I paid for it, just waiting for it to show up.

3 Speedmasters isn't too many, right? RIGHT?!

I ordered the bracelet. The leather strap is also quite attractive, so I might end up buying that separately, but the bracelet was so nice on the one I saw in store (even better than my other 2 speedmasters!) that I decided I should go with it. Plus, most of my stuff is on bracelet these days.

Some say too many, others say it's a good start to really appreciate the Speedie properly. I fall into the latter category and Congratulate you on your new acquisition. Also have the White Dial Speedie and you'll definitely enjoy wearing it. It's a totally different wearing experience.
Here's a couple of pics to tie you over till it arrives.

Close, Dawes Glacier in the Endicott Arm Fjord. Was lucky with great weather, got unbelievably cold going through the fjord, and saw a bunch of harbor seals doing harbor seal things.

Thanks! Fortunately I just got this on my wrist yesterday (saw a great deal on it 2 years old in WUS) to scratch the new watch itch for the next few months:

Watch box is now full and the speedmaster makes box+1, so hopefully that will be enough justification to not get another 😀

Great dial, that one! Hear Ye, Hear Ye, Another watch box is in order for protection of new acquisitions!

Actually thinking of converting my smaller Speedie one into a six watch box. Might as well put it to good use. There's a few threads on the forum about it and looks pretty cool.

I've seen those! I thought about doing one for a while, then outgrew what I could put in it so I gave up on that lol. Maybe my Omega collection is now big enough to need its own box....Up to 3 Seamasters, 3 (soon to be) Speedmaster, and a Rail master.
