Goods not as described, in the meantime OF seller profile got whacked. What now?

Hi all (and mods, especially, I guess).

I need a little bit of help please 😀

One of my purchases on OF this summer went sour... Basically the item came not quite as described. Not good enough for the trash, but not quite useable in the current format either. I do think it's actually a mistake in good faith, like the seller and the (picky) buyer not quite having the same standards of quality, let's say.

Net - I've dropped a couple of PM's to the seller across august, asking for a refund as I ship it back to him - and no answer. He was very accomodating and friendly during the selling phase, so I was a bit suprised to not hear back - but this morning I checked and his profile is just gone. No wonder why my PM's remain unanswered.

I have a name, which I've googled but is not helping (returning too many hits), a bank account and a country. This is it.

What are my best options, please?

Thanks 😀

Paul

I can only say without naming the person and hoping that someone knows him personally that it won't be a good outcome.
I really hope that it's not a lot of money involved.

Sorry to hear this @Lonestar and good on you for not publicly shaming the seller. Unfortunately not all people adhere to the honor system and even in what feels like a safe place like this, we are dealing with humans.

Well another view would be that for the benefit of all, naming of the seller may not be a bad thing, but it is wise to speak to the mods first of course.

May the fleas of a thousand camels invade the crotch of this person. And may their arms be too short to scratch.

Thanks all for the kind comments. 😀

I didn't name the seller because I believe you're innocent until proven guilty, and if the guy is gone from OF against his will, then it's a bit harder for him to help me obviously. And, as said in the opening post, it could very well be an honest mistake. Stuff happens. So no naming and shaming needed for now 😀

Will ping the mods directly - thanks 👍

Paul

PS: @eugeneandresson you're pushing this a bit too far 😁

Agreed, shit happens and I agree with giving someone the benefit of the doubt before I blow up their world.

I sincerely hope so. I'll modify my comment 😉

On second thoughts : no, I won't.

If the mods kicked him off, then he deserves at least the fleas of 500 camels. But that is not far off from 1000, so we leave it be.

If he unregistered to avoid you, then he definately deserves the full 1000 camels fleas.

Right - so thanks to a kind mod who helped me connect the dots - yes, this is Magnus from Iceland.

Now - to be completely fair, the item I bought from him WAS delivered to me, in due time, and with friendly communication. However, it was not in such good shape as initially described, albeit not totally crap either. With the imperfect item in front of me, in hindsight, I can see the defects on the FS pics - albeit partially masked by shadows, which (call me candid, I guess) I think could still be involuntary.

Net, some minor harm done, I feel sorry for the poor folks who lost more than me, it seems. No idea if he was just trying to build a base of positive feedback before scamming bigger, or whether he lost it along the way as he realized scamming is actually easier than he might have initially thought.

Anyway - I guess that's it for now 😵‍💫 Good luck to those who are chasing significant amount of money / items, I hope they catch the guy. In case someone is interested and knows how to take this further, I have a Landsbankinn bank account I can share, as well as this shipping ticket picture he sent me.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose 🤔 Stay safe out there everyone...
