I don't wear gold, I wear a watch.

I have a gold watch, I have a steel case with gold accents on sphere watch, I have some all-steel watches...

All respond to the same criteria: does the watch "works" or does it not? I find that my "all gold" Longines works, as it does my steel-case Connie with gold accents, as it does my all-steel Speedmaster Mk40. What else do I need?

I think there is more flexibility on what’s acceptable when wearing vintage yellow gold dress watches with business and casual attire. Especially for the more pedestrian vintage pieces of the 40s that tend to stand out for their unique period style. Here is a Bulova example that I think could be appreciated with a suit, sweater, button up long sleeve shirt or with the Henley long sleeve in the picture. I don’t want this to be misconstrued as a fashion style statement, rather only that certain vintage gold watches can be more widely appreciated with a variety of occasions.

I love a gold watch to go out to dinner with - it gives me an excuse to swap out my daily wearer for a start!! I wouldn't wear it while under the car though, it's all context... Problem with wearing them is you can't see the amazing backs!

True! I am most drawn to white gold pocket watches, such as this ‘29 Illinois

But the gateway drug to seeing the charm in gold pocket watches was this pot farmer’s 1924 Hamilton

Edit: When I bought it, I thought it was wheat on the dial. I was so young and naive back then 😗

Gold watches aren’t only for dress up days!

I though gold watches weren’t for me, until I gave a try… now wearing this Deluxe since few days, and I think it also works when being casual, it all depend of the strap 😀

I don't care for modern gold watches, but the vintage stuff can be cool. Fashion is circular and I imagine yellow god will be returning soon.

I would never do a gold sports watch, just to ostentatious for me but a nice 36mm gold dress watch would work nice in my modest collection.

What I especially like is that, unlike yellow gold, rose gold is exactly one color so you can get a good match between your modern bracelet and vintage watch.

I like both but I have more yellow, mostly in Omega. I would like to get a rose gold Omega with bracelet some day.

Never really wanted a gold watch until I hit middle age. This thread is not helping my crisis! 😀

Don't be afraid of gold shell (two tone) or gold fill of the 50s. While some collectors may shun them, they can often be had for less money and look just fine. In some ways, I prefer gold shell over steel.

I never really liked gold watches before because yellow gold doesn't suit me.
Then I found this rose gold Omega 2872.
It's sublime!

Now, I am looking for other rose and pink gold watches.
Like Zenith Captain or Longines Conquest or UG Polerouter...

I have nothing in solid gold and, indeed, even a handful of years ago would not have seen myself as wearing a gold coloured watch - my wedding ring is white gold and stainless steel has always been my go-to.

However, my gold coloured vintage pieces do get a reasonable amount of love and can be just right if I’m in the mood to dress things up a little:

If these are tacky and out of style, then I’m fine with tacky and out of style.

That Connie is sharper than the new Speedy case 😉
