Funny that working at a airport every now and then and the gold Nixon is the most common watch seen on young guys in their 20s. Not gold but if your got young guys wearing these it can’t be that out of favour.
When we see young guys wearing yellow gold wedding bands, you'll know we've arrived.
That's actually a good point. I'll be 33 in Feb. and I am trying to think of what all my married friends have, of the handful I can think of, I can only think of 1 I know for sure has a gold band. And in that same group, not one of them is into watches lol. Well, one is just starting, and I am trying to guide him.
Personally, I have a brushed tungsten band with polished edges.
I'm definitely not a ring guy though...
My first gold watch was a Vacheron Constantin yellow gold dress watch that I bought when I was 30 years old, never thought about the color or the fact that it was gold. I believe people overthink these things, if you like it, buy it and wear it, you are the only one you have to please.
It doesn’t matter to me what the general consensus is on watches and styles.
And it doesn’t just stop at gold. The first modern Rolex I bought was a green dial submariner in 2013. The forums, New Turfers and TRF were filled with people saying how odd or even horrible a green watch was. Some even said green doesn’t go with any of my clothes. That was reflected in the price I paid, a decent discount.
The general consensus can often be very plain and boring. So sometimes it’s fun to go the other way. Whatever gold watches I have are part of a bigger collection, they weren’t purchased to be ostentatious, just that they each have an individual character that appeals to me.
Agree - my collection is about 50:50....50% SS, and 50% two tone (SS/Rose Gold or SS/Yellow Gold) - I buy them because I really love them, not what they say or others may think - if they speak to me then they are added to my collection because I love them...
