Gold Watch - Best Strap Colour?

As has been mentioned a lot of yellow gold watches of the 50s, 60s and 70s have that old mani image that’s hard to shake.
And various shade of brown and black don’t do much to stop that, as those were what grandad would’ve worn back in the day.
Now it would largely depend on the watch in question. How about a bit of colour to freshen up the look, I’m not talking about anything bright and garish, a subtle dark blue, green or maroon could the trick.

As an experiment, I’ve had a rummage though the various watch straps at hand and mated them with a typical old bloke’s watch
Not all we’re the correct size so I plonked the larger ones over to top to give an idea of the possibilities.

Here’s an old Seiko in full old geezer mode sporting a black strap:

Now the same in dark blue:

Maroon:

Green:

Grey:

Steel blue:

another green with a more grained pattern:

The lighting isn’t the best, the greens do look much much better than the pix indicate. The later green one in particular, but I think the maroon is the one that best suits this particular watch.
I would go for something more heavily grained, to take it further form old man town, still anything is better that those stretchy expanding bracelets that they all wore back in the day, they really did say one foot in the grave as a statement

I think brown and black are the best. Omega here has an original vintage strap.

I went with a cognac crocodile strap for my 1962 Constellation 14900.

That looks really good to me. I also think that a burgundy tint can look good in some cases.

Brown or black, unless the dial has black markers or other features. If it does, then black strap. (IMO.)

Yep, the brown and black are safe... but green pairs really well with gold, and is just that bit different. (It'll make our Aussie friends happy as well).

So I am looking to help a friend pick a strap for a 1979 gold Garrard (late fathers watch so strong sentimental value). I am terrible with strap choices / rarely buy or change straps and bracelets. I was looking at Hirsch. Any votes or ideas appreciated.
I'm thinking 4. Depends so much of course on the blend of formality etc you want, and other stuff you're wearing. Most of my "collectible" gold pieces are on safety-first "old man" blacks and browns, but for more wearability I like to see more warmth. Here's a couple of examples that might be comparable with your friend's Garrard - I hope it's helpful.

1) A bit of contrast stitching says "Hey, daddy-o, I ain't square or nothin'!"

2) Daring reddish-brown distracts a bit from the watch, but stands out a bit without frightening the horses.

Maybe you need to submit some ideas to the bradurani school...

I’m partial to a sort of cognac leather. I had a vintage Wyler Incaflex on a cognac alligator strap. Loved it.

The solution to worrying if the strap colour will match what you’re wearing is the have a variety of straps with bolt action spring bars, then it’s a piece of piss to change them in seconds without buggerising about with tools.

I'm quite liking "bolt action". I don't think semi-auto should be allowed though...

Something completely different? Strap has a taper from 18mm to 14mm. Thickness of appx 2mm - it just looks thicker because of the zoom.

That’s seriously blue!
Probably not my choice, but it kinda works with that watch, certainly better than I would’ve imagined, however I think it would be way too much on the traditional 60s old geezer gold type of watch.

I was looking at Hirsch. Any votes or ideas appreciated. From the selection below I liked option 3 (left to right) as did @tapaptpat
.
Here's my 1974 9K gold Garrard on a gold/sand suede band. The thickness of the band suits the lugs.

Actually, this is better representation of the band colour.

Very nice. Where did you score the buckle?

Black-reddish looks black at night and reddish at lunch. Sorry for the bad photos, but I hope you get the point.
