Gold Watch - Best Strap Colour?

I really appreciate this resource! Getting some ideas for reviving my father's 50 year old DeVille...

If this thread is still active, I'd love some suggestions on strap... the chocolate, chestnut brown, and cognac suggestions above are appealing, as is the large-grain gator texture.

Anyone know the model details on this as well? Thanks.

It is a good thread. There is another in matching straps to watches if you can find it. The details about your DeVille will be printed on the inside. A watchmaker can open it for you, but don't try yourself unless you have the requisite skill and tools. If you start a new thread in the Vintage Omega subforum, someone might be able to ID based on the outside.

If the watch has black trimmed hardware on the dial, and black hands, I prefer a black strap. If the dial and hands are silver, with no black trim, I prefer a black strap. Gold trimmed dial and hands with no black accents, I prefer brown 60%, and black 40%. But it is a matter of personal choice.

Same as @Canuck I try to match up with the dial & markers.

And whilst this is my 1000th post we need some pics 馃榾

Thanks all! @wagudc thanks for the tip, just getting into this subculture...

@Canuck that methodology makes sense to me! @Noddyman that top pic of yours is closer to my watch, and the color really appeals... I'm picking up on the lighter browns looking sportier, while the darker shades + black looking dressier, which helps my decision making process. Thanks!

So I am looking to help a friend pick a strap for a 1979 gold Garrard (late fathers watch so strong sentimental value). I am terrible with strap choices / rarely buy or change straps and bracelets.
I was looking at Hirsch. Any votes or ideas appreciated. From the selection below I liked option 3 (left to right) as did @tapaptpat
.

You did not mention how you intent to wear the watch. Jeans and T-shirts or only with dress clothes?

That would have an influence on my choice of watch bands.

Obviously it鈥檚 a matter of personal taste but I always like the darker brown of this buffalo grain strap on my 1959 Seamaster.

I鈥檓 pretty certain I bought it on eBay for under 拢10.

It鈥檚 a selection choice for a friend. I imagine aside from weddings and funerals it will mostly be semi-formal smart-casual dinners and events. It might be worth him having a couple of options to cover the spectrum I guess?

My votes are #2 for formal black tie stuff, personal everyday favorite is #1, and I also dig #5 for funky casual.

Agree with @Aroxx regarding formal wear - #2 and for something interesting, agree with #5. I would prefer #3 for everyday/casual wear but with matching thread, similar to @Spruce - that is a beautiful strap, BTW. Good luck with decision.馃憤

For me i like the deep red croc, it's class! I much prefer this grain in croc skin, the squared areas of the skin are more expensive but I find they look too formal.

I only have 1 yellow gold watch in my collection currently as I recently sold my Omega Geneve - but these were the straps I used on them (both were tan):

I think all these straps, except 2nd from the right (which is way more elegant/refined) and, possibly 3rd from the left, as you noticed, are way too big, too thick and non-tapering. You need something more elegant.

Would you be able to point to a good brand / supplier? Thanks
