Gold Watch - Best Strap Colour?

    Hi All

I have a gold watch (1967 Audax Manual Wind) and while not valuable it does have sentimental value so I decided to get it serviced and wear it. I don't have any other gold watches and just wondered which strap colour might look best? It's 18mm lug width and about a 36mm case. I didn't want something too thin as I don't want it to sit too close when wearing.
Any ideas? I thought about a Hirsch Forest in brown?

    Cheers, Matt.

I'm very partial to deep chocolate brown with yellow gold cases, moving over to black with rose gold.

Hirsch makes a quality product, but there are some styles I like more than others. I'm not familiar with the "Forest" line.

I like these Speidel Sport Calf bands. They have a nice vintage look, even when brand new.

Price is very reasonable for what you get.

Deep brown or black for formal, I like natural gator for casual.

Funny, I go the other way: rose gold + chocolate brown, yellow gold + black

Cognac is not bad for a more "sportatious" look in yellow gold.

I vacillate between most any kind of black strap and honey ostrich.

It also depends on dial color, but I tend to agree with the others.

Honey ostrich is classic with YG. I find a brown with red-ish hue works really nice with RG..

Why so limited? Buy a dozen different styles and colors and have fun.

Thanks for all the pictures everyone. I thought I knew what I wanted but now I have no idea, there are quite a few options that look really nice.

Dennis - probably best I don't show all your pictures to my wife shes already rolling her eyes because I've just spent more to service a watch than it's worth simply because it was my dads and I can recall wearing it when I was 5.

I'm a little surprised she would take issue with having a family piece serviced. I service so many watches of little monetary value, but that have family connections - it is very common for my bill to be much larger than what the watch is worth in these situations.

I am not really a yellow gold guy at all - has "old man's watch" connotations for me, but that's just my personal thing and I know I'm in the minority here. Rose gold is another matter though....

But the one yellow gold (plated) watch that I wear is a family piece:

I really like this strap with it:

Thanks Al, I tend to agree with you on the 'yellow' gold perspective and while I probably won't wear it often it's just something I couldn't chuck out.
I've been looking at it months thinking should I, shouldn't I and quite rightly as you say I always knew it would be more to service than it's worth (I suspect quite a bit more as I'm sure its only worth the sentimental value) but I do smile when I think about me walking around the the house with it on as small kid! And that's what really matters to me with this one.

I tend to prefer black with yellow gold. Pink gold, to my eye, allows for more flexibility.

Thanks all. This is a really old thread, but it was helpful to me. I had to respond to show my appreciation, and to bump it up to help others.

I go more by the colour of the markers on the dial, and the colour of the trim on the hands. If black, I prefer a black strap. Of gold, then I prefer brown. Personal choice.

Depends on what color your shoes are.

A photo of your watch would help. Each vintage has its own patina.
