Gold pie pan

Hi all! So my search for a pie pan continues…

I chanced upon a listing for one (pics below), which even though I am not intending to purchase given it’s quite pricy, is one that looks legit to me. I can’t tell if the case is over polished. What do you think about the watch?

Not a constellation expert but the text looks good on that dial. Need more pictures to evaluate the case. Crown looks soft tho.

Dial looks correct, although might have been cleaned at one time. The crown is as good as can be expected for a 60 year old watch. I think it is original or a very early service replacement.

I’m not sure about the condition of the case. Generally, gold capped cases are not quite as sharp as solid gold or steel. This is due to the process of making them by bonding gold over steel. This one does not look too bad, but the photos are very overexposed.

The listing says the gold capping is 18K. I don't believe that is correct. I think it is 14K, not 18K. Some of these have solid gold bezels. I’m not sure if this model is one of them.

Hope this helps,

Interesting, I wasn’t aware not all of the bezels on those gold-capped examples were solid gold!

I’d say the case has seen a polish, but it’s not too bad. Enough that I’d expect it to have an effect on the price, but not enough to render it unattractive.

Shouldn’t the “original” crown have been a flat feet one? I would’ve considered it a service replacement for this reason.

It's a nice watch at a ridiculous price.

The reason? Well, it would look like someone is trying to recuperate the money he spend at Omega Enthusiast.

That kind of price is only feasible if you have a massive online presence and a good reputation. Omega Enthusiast has 110K followers on Instagram and a number of n00bs who are ready to throw money at him.

I doubt the seller will get half of what he is asking.

Black paint on markers started to fade away.

I have a Connie Pie Pan 168.005 in near NOS condition with original box inside and out and never expected its price to reach $4K.

Nice watch but insanely overpriced for a black-paint hour marker.

Well-spotted, sir! This would be overpriced if it was solid 18k.

A third of his asking would actually be pretty spot-on for a good gold-capped 168.005 with piepan-dial. Well, he’ll learn, given time.

Is there a thread with Connie Pie Pan prices, or do I have to open a new topic to find out how much each model costs ? I don't want to clutter this topic with my questions

Price is quoted in Singapore dollars. About US$2,800. Only double market, not triple. 😁

Thanks everyone for your input, it’s very valuable for a newbie like me who struggle with authentication and valuing these pie pans. In short I suppose this is a watch worth getting, but just not at USD 2,800+…?

I’m not thrilled with the paint coming off the markers. The market value for pie-pans that you see is mostly for those with onyx markers, which do not fade.

I would give that watch a pass and look for something more reasonably priced.
