A topic on the Gold Apollo 11 tribute Speedmaster BA 145.022 as I have been trying to find out which of the 35 astronauts who received such a Gold Speedmaster, actually have worn the chronograph...
On November 25, 1969 during a banquet in the Warwick Hotel - Houston, Omega gifted a Gold BA 145.022 to 23 astronauts and 3 posthumously to the familes of Virgil Grissom (#4), Edward White (#10) and Roger Chaffee (#28) who died in the Apollo 1 fire January 27, 1967.
The Astronaut Appreciation Dinner menu paper listed 22 astronauts, with their military rank, as honored guests... Chief of the Astronaut office Donald Deke Slayton was not on this list.
I would like to see some photographs taken during this event...

Another 9 astronauts received their Gold BA 145.022 in 1972 and 1973, although I couldn't find a precise date nor events when these Gold Speedmaster chronographs were awarded to Apollo 14 to 17 astronauts.
So far, out of 32 astronauts, I have only found 13 astronauts actually wearing their Gold Speedmaster wristwatch:
Those with a * behind their name, wore it during training for Apollo or Skylab missions
    #3 Alan Shepard
    #7 Leroy Cooper
    #12 Charles Conrad *
    #15 Frank Borman
    #16 David Scott
    #17 Neil Armstrong
    #18 Eugene Cernan *
    #21 Edwin Aldrin
    #26 Alan Bean *
    #27 Donald Slayton
    #1001 Stuart Roosa
    #1002 Edgar Mitchell
    #1003 James Irwin
    ...
The search continues, I believe Apollo 15 LMP James Irwin was wearing his Gold BA 145.022 in this August 24, 1972 photograph as he retired as a USAF Colonel... but I need the dates in 1972 and 1973 when the last 9 Gold BA 145.022 were awarded
::confused2:: anyone knows these dates ?
    .

What do You think... was James Irwin wearing his Gold BA 145.022 in this August 24, 1972 photograph ?

Interestingly, 22 astronauts were on the honored guests list, but Omega reserved Gold Speedmaster number 27 for Donald Deke Slayton...
Although he wouldn't flt in space untill the ASTP - Apollo Soyuz Test Project in July 1975...

    @eugeneandresson
I have found more photos in this James Irwin series, which confirm it's a Gold Omega Speedmaster chronograph
    .
    Irwin.jpg ( August 24, 1972)
    .
Moreover, preparing my fifth Speedmaster-related article, on " Time Peace, How the Omega watches got behind the Iron Curtain and into the Soviet-Russian space program ", I have found several photographs on which I believe the Apollo 14 astronauts are wearing their Gold Apollo 11 tribute Speedmaster chronographs in 1971... while Omega stated the remaining Apollo astronauts, who didn't fly prior to November 1969, received theirs in 1972 & 1973.
So it's probably the Apollo 14 astronauts got theirs immediately after their flight in February or March 1971 ?
    ...
Apart from this, there're other open interesting Spaceflight-Speedmaster related questions, which I might pose to Omega in an Open Letter ....

Neil Armstrong was keen to wear his Gold Apollo 11 tribute Speedmaster, as he wore it on the final destination of the Apollo 11 Worldtour in Canada, and even wore it during a visit to US troops in Lai Khe - Vietnam in December 1969...
Here's a MoonwatchUniverse selection showing with 1979 the most recent photo we have of Armstrong wearing the Gold A11 Speedmaster in 1979.

A few astronauts even wore their 1969 Gold Apollo 11 tribute Speedmaster during training (e.g. Gene Cernan for A17 and Tom Stafford for ASTP)
    Alan Bean even wore it for his official individual NASA portrait for the Skylab program and continued to wear his Gold A11 tribute Speedmaster chronograph during training for Skylab in 1973 and Apollo-Soyuz in 1974... again a selection of photos;

, Congratz 88th birthday to astronaut David R. Scott!
NASA photo showing Apollo 15 commander David Scott wearing his Gold Apollo 11 tribute Speedmaster during the post-mission press conference.
Note the blood underneath Scott’s damaged fingernails due to operating the heavy core drill on the Lunar Surface. Double deep-drill core tubes were droven as deep as 68 cm by application of extra hammer blows... Man must explore !

    1971_ParisAirShow_Omega.jpg .
It looks like both Apollo 14 astronauts, Edgar Mitchell (far left) & Stuart Roosa (3rd from left) already wore their Gold Apollo 11 tribute Speedmaster BA 145.022 chronograph during the June 1971 Paris Air Show...
Is that a Gold chronograph on Mitchell's wrist and an Omega symbol on what should be a Gold 1116/575 bracelet for Roosa... or a Rolex crown?
If I'm right, it looks like those Apollo astronauts (A14 Mitchell & Roosa, A15 Irwin & Worden, A16 Duke & Mattingly & A17 Schmitt & Evans) who didn't fly a mission by November 25, 1969 (when Gold Speedies were delivered during NASA-Omega gala dinner), received theirs immediately after their missions... and not in late 1972 & 1973...
Minor detail I know, but as always... Observation not Age brings Wisdom

MoonwatchUniverse will still bring the 50th anniversaries of Apollo 14 to ASTP before finally closing down the website...
Here's a preview of the Apollo 15 ceremony in New York City with Commander David Scott clearly wearing his Gold Omega Speedmaster

Just a final word on these Gold Speedmaster chronographs... So far as 2020, none of these were ever flown during a spaceflight mission !
There're many NASA photographs showing several astronauts wearing their Gold Omega Speedmaster during training activities , especially these well-known 1975 ASTP training images showing Thomas Stafford wearing his Gold Omega Speedmaster BA 145.022 chronograph

    October 10, 2013… RIP astronaut/aquanaut Scott Carpenter
Seven years ago, former Mercury-7 astronaut & Navy Commander Scott Carpenter passed away at the age of 88… He was the first American astronaut to wear a wristwatch in space!
During his May 1962 “Aurora-7” spaceflight, Scott Carpenter wore a 24 hour dial Breitling NaviTimer but he became best known as an Aquanaut after his contact with French explorer/oceanographer Jacques Cousteau.
During SeaLab underwater habitats research, Carpenter wore several Rolex Submariner diving toolwatches and had a fascination with wristwatches in general.
Here’s a lesser known photo (1972) showing Scott Carpenter wearing his Gold Apollo 11 tribute Omega Speedmaster #6 chronograph which he received in November 1969. He was holding a card containing trichogramma wasp eggs related to his biological pest control bug breeder program.

Does this photo add the late Walter Wally Schirra to our list, seen here probably wearing his Gold Apollo 11 tribute Speedmaster #8 ?

The first 32 Gold " Apollo 11 tribute " Omega Speedmasters were made for the astronauts who had already flown a spaceflight mission by November 1969... Numbers #3 to #28 were for the astronauts, other numbers for POTUS, vice-POTUS and other personalities.
Numbers #33 to #1000 were available to the public & sold in Omega stores. These had another caseback and came in the silver crater box !

Reviving this old topic on the Gold Apollo 11 tribute Speedmaster chronographs...
As my old big note book is falling apart, I have just decided to share my notes about the Gold "Apollo 11 tribute" Speedmaster BA 145.022-69 astronaut-worn-chronographs in the SWFG - Space Watches Facebook Group and here on OmegaForums.
Although I have Richard Francis Gordon listed as having worn the Gold n° 20 after receiving it, which means I have seen a photo of him doing so, I don't directly find a good photo in my MoonwatchUniverse files... getting old
If interested, I can share a spreadsheet with information when the photos were taken of the NASA astronauts actually wearing their Gold "A11 tribute" Speedmaster (e.g. John Glenn wore his while visiting President Jimmy Carter on his boyhood farm in Plains - Georgia in 1976)
