Hello , I have the possibility to get this beautiful Pepsi for 10K € , for which I would trade in my Submariner 1978.
Movement was serviced by Rolex.

What do you think ?

(I am surprised that it is not a double clasp on the armband)

that one looks to be in pretty good shape. Obviously, no way to tell if the bracelet is correct for the year, or a replacement.

Did they present you the service paperwork from Rolex?

edit: sorry, I just re-read the post and noticed the date mentioned was for your sub. I think the insert is later than the 6 million serial on the GMT.

You will later regret the sub. Why not save and get both?

He might have several Subs. Anyway, I don’t k ow what the question is. Obviously we don’t know the terms of the trade so I assume the OP is just asking for opinions about the GMT?

I only have one Sub , which I bought (thanks for your advice , Dan S) . It would be basically a swap : I paid 8.5 for the Sub and will add 1K and get the 1981GMT . The GMT tends to be rarer, and on average more exensive, so I thought it might be a good deal. But I may be wrong. This is my Sub - below.

sure, i thought they all had double clasp , which is obviosly more safe (double lock) - anyway, normal - everyone makes mistakes even the Rolex engeneers.

I think this is more a matter of personal preference than whether it's a "good deal." But the fact that you are considering the trade suggests that you're not in love with the Sub.

Assuming you're referring to a flip-lock, I'm not sure where you got this idea. Have you looked at any photos of GMT Masters?

While I know they make mistakes, this isn't one of them. The GMT historically has not come on a diver bracelet, although one could request it from AD in the past. Did the seller provide you the paperwork on the rolex service? The service date is material given if it was recent and is currently not in need of service, that saves you some money.

Will the mismatched color of the hands vs dial lume bother you? Will the newer insert (while aesthetically pleasing to my eyes) bother you?

The hands seem to be in tone with the dial , are they really much more recent ?? Are you sure about that ?
The hands on my Sub are not from 1978 either, I do not think.

I didn't say the hands are more recent, I said they don't match the color of lume on the dial (they aren't far off, but not an exact match--at least in the photos you provided). The insert, however, is a more recent addition. How about the service paperwork, do you have a copy of it to post here?

according to the seller it was a revision of the movement only, not dial , by a Rolex authorised watchmaker.

So no paperwork regarding service?

It won't help as the dial was not considered during the revision and it was obviously NOT the Rolex SA in Switzerland but an 'authorised' dealer (meaningless term) - otherwise the price would be much higher.

I think what @southtexas is asking is "does the Sub come with documented service from Rolex or a respected watchmaker?". If so, this adds slightly to the value. If it's just the sellers word that it's been service, with no evidence to back this up, it adds zero value.

Not really (meaningless). An AD service will have more value than an independent service. I don’t think Rolex SA will need to service these references yet

You're not a fan of Tempus uurwerktechniek, they are highly recommend on the Dutch watchforum?
