Prices are 20 - 25 % more higher in Europe than in the US but, sadly , this is not reflected in the salaries !

I wonder if experienced collectors would agree with that, or if it is more a reflection of where you are shopping. In my entire time as a collector, I have never bought a watch on Chrono24, I simply don't find the prices in line with the quality. I follow auctions in the US and Europe, and I don't see a significant difference in prices.

unless you open the watch and lick it
…or a little peppercorn sauce, thinly sliced steak and some rice? Count Pavel Stroganov recommended.

well , the prices for same watches on the US market are often cheaper , then you have the import duty , unless you smuggle it in , of course, or bribe the customs, which sadly does not work.

Auctions : depends on the currency strength but the UK auctions are pricey and with the commission , VAT on top , transport you can shed a tear.A good way, clearly, is to buy from collectors directly .

PS : Chrono gives you a protection , the auction houses do not. Perhaps an experienced collector as yourself does not need it , but small apprentice - collectors , such as myself, clealy do.

Sorry, but this is simply not true. If you aren't comfortable buying at auction, that's understandable. But I follow UK auctions, and prices are not higher, making apples to apples comparisons with VAT and sales tax. I don't know if you really believe this, or if it is a story you are telling yourself to justify overpaying.

If you are willing to pay a premium, at least buy a good one from a reputable seller - a collector or good dealer. Reach out and make a strong offer.

oh boy. I think if you spend enough researching the hobby, you'll find there are plenty of dealers who are less than honorable in their dealings.

You get what you pay for. Without wanting to be rude I think you are looking for a bargain but they are very rare in Rolexland...

Mark , as in every market there is irrational behavious and inconsistencies in the pricing , which one can make use of. Uniformity is a merket killer, what excites me , as an investor , is to explore and explot these price dips. Otherwise , no point.

You’re extremely unlikely to find a bargain on C24 and this certainly isn’t it.

I agree with others, I’ve never bought a watch on that platform. It seems to be overpriced.

I do however agree that watches are slightly more expensive in the UK on average.

For example I’ve owned perhaps seven 5 digit Rolex’s, maybe ten and I think only two were bought from the UK. The majority were from the US as prices were considerably cheaper.

It is still very much supply - demand driven. Even and especially if all of us shun Chrono24 in favour of auction houses , we will end up with similar prices at the end as we engage in a bidding war and the outbidder is the one prepared to go irrationally , i.e. by overpaying. So in substance it is the same.

But - let me take you on the good dealers then : which ones do you recommend in EU / UK as having good quality watches for good prices ? I guess it would be naive to expect a reply as every collector will keep his cards close to his chest 😀

depends on your definition of "collector".
It does. By that I mean, patient, experienced collectors, who have relatively large collections and who are on the lookout for a good quality - price ratio and are happy to take months/years to find a watch as they are often looking for several at once.

I am not an expert by any means, but obviously something is going on with the tritium lume. Is it mold? Just loose tritium dust? Has it permanently affected the dial? Is it still water tight? I don't think these questions can be answered with just a photo, even by an expert. I don't think the price is too high, even for a 2-tone. But considering what it might cost to fix, and any further impact on value...especially if you send it back to Rolex. Make sure this is really the watch you want. There are a lot of cool ones out there.
