Not for me, as you'll never see past the dial damage - the area that @Shabbaz marked. That combined with the stained date ring may indicate water ingress so, who knows how bad the movement is.

Cheers, Chris

also i'm confused because you are all telling me that the prices on some of the watches i'm suggesting are way high but then when i ask if the price is negotiable they say no?

The pieces in question are being sold by people with unreasonably high expectations of value.
Sure, someone may buy them at that price but you could probably find something better for cheaper.

Sellers with very unreasonable expectations are less likely to negotiate.

Have you tried offering a lower price rather than just asking to negotiate, I tend to find that at least gets a counter offer?

On places like Chrono24 you’re paying a significant premium for the convenience and for the protections the platform puts in place. You’re also buying (generally) from people where selling watches is their primary income. Those dealers are prepared to sit on inventory for a while to make a decent profit.

What I think a lot of members here mean when they say prices are way high is that they’re way high for what they’d be willing to pay by hunting for a private sale through an auction or from a fellow collector on these and other forums. That takes a lot of time and a lot of knowledge.

For example I am currently looking for a late 70s/early 80s TV dial Seamaster - currently not fashionable and the consensus here is they’re worth maybe 450. Most of the Chrono24 listings are 800+.

The second one is a mess - look at the side picture with the crown. You can see the gold plating is coming off.

On my phone (which has a very small screen) the third looks a reasonable watch and the movement looks clean. They say it is serviced so, are they providing a warranty? Worth asking.

You seem to like gold (in this case it is "cap" which is much better than plate) as well as stainless steel so, it might be worth stepping back a little and working out exactly what you prefer. It's not easy👍.

Cheers, Chris

How very thoughtful. I am sure that he appreciates the efforts that you make to purchase just a right gift.

I am afraid that you may be faced with a lot of choices. If it were me and I was buying something special, I would probably do the following:

1. Take a look at the watches that he likes already or the style that he likes - simple, gold, steel, dark dial or light etc..
2. I would stay away from Ebay and Chrono24 because you want him to have something special. You run the risk of purchasing something that you or he may be disappointed with. Said another way - the higher price premium doesn't reduce the risk of being disappointed (as you might think that it would). On Chrono24 or Ebay, you may be spending a while before you find something that you both like and doesn't have some problem you will find later on.
3. I would look over the classified on this forum - private watches for sale and pick one that you like - the seller will work with you to get it to you on time. The advantage is that the people on the forum would rather maintain their reputation than make a sale - the description will give you a good idea of what you are purchasing. Many of them were serviced recently by reputable watchmakers, reducing the risk of purchasing something that you will be disappointed with.
4. If I don't like something on the classifieds here, people here will gladly point you to reputable dealers online - they may charge a little more but you will know what you are getting. I believe that they have mentioned a few already.

If you put in the style of watch that you like - some people here will probably be able to point you to something online that is likely to fit the bill.

This one looks to have potential to me. Seller says it is serviced, does he have proof and a warranty period? If so, around $750 would be a fair price. Given your time constraints you might need to pay more. For the reasons stated by others you may need to pay ~$900. If you like it and others weigh in with a positive review of the watch, offer $750. See what comes back.

I have not read the entire thread, so will just comment on the original post. If you start another thread, I'll definitely take a look, but it's going to be hard for me to catch up on this one. In scrolling through, I saw a lot of links.

I like the second one best by far, the Turler Seamaster. Price aside, it's a nice watch. Classic Omega style. I would be happy to get that as a gift and I would wear it frequently.

The other two are decent quality watches, but not classic Omega at all, and not in the same league IMO in terms of desirability. The blue Constellation is particularly unappealing to me.

yes, it's been quite a ride! thanks for weighing in! i like that one as well. the draw of the other two was that they were a bit more casual. but the goal is classic omega so i agree with your choice.

if i could ask for your opinion once more, which of these two would you choose?
turler seamster for 1300 (i bet i could get him down to 1200)
or this one for around 800

seller does have proof of service but no warranty and no returns. someone pointed out that there was some patina on the dial and discoloration on the date and was worried it could indicate water damage so that has me a little concerned.

I think we are talking about different watches. I agree the one from the UK seller with dial damage at 11:00 is one to pass on. The one I think is worth making a low-ball offer on is this one:

@ChrisN seemed to think it was worth considering in his post above. I think the list price is high but. . .
