·I was very pleased to attend the annual George Daniels lecture at the City of London University last night. A very fitting long-term legacy for the great man. The lecture was given by Andrew Crisford ‘Abraham Louis Breguet, the original tick-tock influencer’ Andrew walked the audience through 8 key points (while discussing some amazing timepieces of course) showing to my mind that perhaps we are a bit hard on modern brands and their marketing techniques. Breguet was the trail blazer for all the techniques and no matter how great a watchmaker you are…. You still have to sell them :0) There were some great nods for Omega as well throughout the presentation.
The event was very well attended with a number of wold class watchmakers, experts and dealers. Of course there was a strong contingent from the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers and the Antiquarian Horological Society.
There is a fine display of Breguet timepieces at the Science Museum London / clockmakers museum currently, which is free and well worth a visit. The icing on the cake for me was meeting and the chance to have a quick chat with legendary watchmaker Roger W Smith.
