Hi, I just bought this bezel on eBay. Described as being from a 1967 Speedmaster. I’ve checked against the Moonwatch Only reference book and it looks good to me but I’m far from certain. Would really appreciate your learned thoughts, thanks. Pictures are from the listing.

Do you have sharper photos? The printing looks all wonky, but I'm guessing that it is due to compression artifacts.

Looks like a repro to me as writing doesn't feel crisp enough (especially the 3s). Though it could be pictures.

Thanks for all the responses. I’m in agreement that the issue of concern is the typeface. The bezel appears to have all the typographical variations to be expected such as the position of the dots relative to the numbers, the accented È, 7 with serif, etc.

The typeface is thicker than I’d have expected and I don’t know if there were DON bezel that had a thick typeface. Some of the newer and older bezels had a thick typeface but I think the DON bezel had a finer, crisper font. Would be great to see if anyone has an original DON bezel of this era with a thick typeface.

I am by no means an expert but a keen enthusiast, I would say the text on the Tachy is dead give away. I would vote not genuine.

Thanks I’m hoping you’re right and the pics have lost clarity. It’s the thick typeface that concerns me. I think I’ll have the bezel within a week and will post pics then!

Definitely a fake. The dot besides the 80 isn't in the centre of the track. Look at the dot under the 2 of 250, wrong place. Fonts are too small.

Interesting observations - I’ll research more online - but I agree the positions of those look out of place.

100% Non - Omega
I wanted to post something similar but as a relative newbie I went with a more ambiguous reply!

Hi Paddy
How much did you pay? Genuine don bezels used to be really expensive, even though that might have changed a bit since I researched this.
You mention Ebay, so if people here are right that the bezel is fake, you should be able to return it and get your money back.

Yea I paid a very reasonable price relative to what they should go for so I suppose it’s a case of “if it’s too good to be true it usually is”. But yes I presume I’ll be returning it to the seller. Don’t mind if I take a hit on postage - lesson learned!

Thanks - can I ask what’s particularly obvious - is it the heavy typeset?

Honestly its everything.

The differences are small, but present.

It helps having a large library of Non Omega bezels, but this one is so bad it does not need careful comparison.

That would be the reason it was cheap.

For a start, look carefully at the font on the numbers. They dont line up.

Look at the 110. Draw an imaginary line under the number, and you will see the digits are not on the same line. !20 is the same.

The font itself is incorrect.

Look at 140.

The dot is on top of the 4 vs on the top left corner of the 4 (as shown in the Moonwatch reference book).

Paddymoran, it's slightly off the subject, but I'm wondering if you know my cousin Paddy O'Furniture?

Thanks for your frankness and detail. I put a lot of that done to the quality of the images but no doubt you’re right.

Funnily enough I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the Beach Boys in concert here in Ireland a few times and Bruce Johnson usually mentions that he has Irish family - and then he refers to his aunt Patti O’Futniture!!!! There’s always one 😀

I saw one for sale on eBay recently, if it’s the one I think it is the buyer did state not genuine. The description was:

Omega 1967 Speedmaster bezel..
Taken from a 1967 Omega Speedmaster that I used to own.
It was removed during a service, it looks great, was never loose on the watch but was replaced with a new one.
It will fit other Speedmasters, I was told the insert is not genuine, although it looks fine to me when compared to a friends watch, but, please bid assuming the insert is not genuine.
