Geneve seconds hand. Too short?

Hi all, first post on the forum so would appreciate some insight

This is my grandfather’s Geneve 9K that was gifted to him by the company he worked for in 1972 for long service. I don’t ever remember seeing him without this watch on his wrist. I inherited it 1995, and I’ve worn it maybe two or three times. I’ve just had it serviced - its first in 25 years. It had an unsigned crown when I received it so my grandfather must have had it serviced at some point in his ownership.

My question to you all is regarding the length of the seconds hand. Is it too short for the dial? Having read an article about vintage Constellations, I understand that the seconds hand should cover the indices. Is this true of all Omegas?

I’ve trawled the internet and haven’t found many Omegas with considerably shorter seconds hands. If it is an incorrect hand then it’s possible that it was changed out either during my grandfather’s time, or when I had it serviced recently.

Appreciate your thoughts

Regards,
Luke

Generally speaking the second hand would be of equal length to the minute hand.

Perhaps the seconds hand was clipped to fit under a generic crystal. I've actually seen a watchmaker perform this abomination.

It’s possible as it’s an unsigned crystal. I know the crystal wasn’t touched at the last service because there are two faint scratches still on it that have been there since I’ve had it. My grandfather always wore it with the dial on the inside of his wrist - perhaps he wore it this way because he previously damaged the crystal and it needed replacing.

I’m starting to see what a minefield vintage watches can be, so might have a million more questions to ask!
