This one was a little troublesome. I received it from the seller not running - definitely not how it was described. Insistent denials followed, thin in the light of the fact that the running second had was in the same place in all of the seller's pre-sale photos. I'm a little mad at myself for not noticing it. With an assist from Mike and his watch repair man, all was put right. Apparently the problem was debris in the movement from some sloppy work in the past - no replacement parts needed and no harm done, as the seller did suggest that a service was needed (!). All of this agita for one of the six very early (1969-70) El Primero references in gold - 350 pieces produced. The G 583 is probably the plainest of all of them, without even a tachymeter bezel and no contrast on the subdials, yielding a very simple looking chronograph. The dial is silver with a gold wash over it - unusual effect, like a golden version of faded denim A flash pic shows the vertical grain in the finish There's an automatic chronograph with date in there! I never cease to marvel... Comparison with sister reference G 582 shows an interesting detail - the chronograph second hand is unique to this model, lengthened to reach the seconds register at the very edge of the dial. 31 jewel version of 3019 PHC inside, as befits a gold Primero reference Hope you like it as much as I do!
That's a damn good looking watch. The sister version with the black subdials is the cat's meow though.
I think it's a blackhole there which just sucks up everything and nothing comes out of it, especially an EP.
That's a dress chronograph among dress chronographs - slim and with a minimalist dial. Omega did the same thing with a few of their dials (like the dial on the 320 I have decided to let go). Glad to see the watch is up and running again.
Thank you gents for the appreciation, even if tinged with acquisitiveness (and whose is not?) That train has left the station, unfortunately! http://omegaforums.net/threads/my-new-18k-320.3922/
Was hoping another train might be coming along... would edit that to "I let go" instead of "I have decided to let go," to spare others the heart palpitations.
Lou, you will look great wearing your Sean Connery/James Bond tux with this watch half hidden under the cuff of the rather plain white shirt with small understated gold cufflinks. JohnCote
Hi LouS, are you absolutely sure about this? I've one and the dial is perfect silver. Do you think there are 2 versions, or is mine re-done, or is yours in need of a varnish cleaning? All the best, Miguel
There are actually more than two versions - white, gold wash, deep gold, with and without tachymeter. A lot of dial inconsistency with this reference.
Hi LouS, I'm new to the forum so I really don't know what is the flow here but I believe that would be interesting to catalog all of them on the same post. Do you think this should be done here, and that I should post photos of mine in this post or should we create a new thread for all the members that have one to post their variants? All the best, Miguel
