    Hi

I am new to this world and are thinking about buying this watch, but have some doubts about its genuinity. Cal. 269. Don´t have images of the movement. It´s valued to 350€. Should it hot have a more tapered bottom case if its a Seamaster? Any other thoughts?

The case looks like that of a Seamaster 30.
So it is most likely a Seamaster, but what Rochete means, is that the dial did not come out from the factory with a dial looking like that. It has been repainted later on.

Okey, I see. Thought the dial was replaced. How can one tell if it’s a bad redial?

Thanks a lot for your input guys!

It takes a lot of time and practice to be able to tell with certainty, but the obvious signs on this one is the color of the dial, as well as the font that is too bold.

You should take a look in these two threads. There you will find both examples of other redials, as well as some excellent advice on what to look after, when searching for your first watch :)

If you don`t recognize this as a redial I would stay away from vintage watches for now.

    Hello and welcome,
After spending too much time looking at watches you begin to spot details quiet quickly. The minute markers might be too close, too long, too short, too thick or too thin. The writing not 100% correct, either because of thickness, wrong font style or sometimes wrong model. If you look at the minute markers either side of the hour marker, for example, they are not spaced at the same distance. At the 11 hour marker they are too far apart.
So why should you not buy this watch? For collectors orinality is everything and this is now not original. Secondly, it is overpriced for what it is. If you don t care about it being original and you don t mind overpaying by a good 100 euro then buy it. If you want a nice, original watch then keep looking and keep asking.
Many of us have paid a noob tax, I was lucky mine was only overpriced but 100% original. I still have it and I still love it :)

That's a bit harsh - everyone has to learn at some point. @Mr.Wolf make sure to ask here before spending money.

    Cheers, Chris

I disagree. One can start buying vintage watches from reputable sources, like trustworthy dealers or in forums. It is true that ebay is for the knowledgeable and brave collector, but with time and effort everybody can do it.
