Hello OMEGA and watch lovers, and in particular, the grey-beard boffins! May I introduce myself, and Frank, my elderly Omega of mottled origin.

The dial - as you might be able to see - used to say "Seamaster" with a "0" visible beneath it. The movement looks like a 30T2 variant, with the serial number "995??13", probably dating it to around 1940 (Pre-Seamaster?). Inside the caseback says '2179'. It has no second hand.

Hence, "Frank". However, I like this old boy, I really do. I would like to learn more about it with a view to returning it to as normal, or original, as possible, with a service at the same time.

My father was a navigator on the Halifax Bomber in World War Two, and I fantasise that he might have had something like this. I believe it is probably a civilian version, but hey.

What dial might it have had? What dial could it have? Should it have a second hand?

    Any other thoughts, suggestions?

I live in the Deep South of New Zealand, and we do have a local jeweller and watch repair guy, but does Frank need something special?

I have always been a watch lover, but have only taken to it in a big way over the last 18 months, and now have nearly 40 - two of them Omegas, this one and a Spectre on NATO.

    Thanks in anticipation.

It should have a dial like this. Not a Seamaster.

You can google Omega 2179 to get more info about it.

Lots of reference 2179s produced, both civilian and US Army.

These are usually seen with some variation on radium painted Arabic numerals and a fine second track.

Your dial came from another watch altogether at some point in it's long life.

Well your old Frank has seen some interesting times. I suspect that the dial is from a Seamaster Cosmic, but that's only a guess.

Your case number and the caliber 30T2 SC (Seconds Centrale) indicates that your watch may have originally been one similar to the famous "US Army Omegas".

If you Google your case number, you can find many examples of how the dial may have looked in the past.

Thank you all for your replies - I am very excited to get it back to a more original state, and I love the look of these dials!
Could you advise me where one might buy dials and hands for Frank?

    Google search omega 2179

Check Ebay every so often. Maybe a parts movement or someone selling parts

Wanted to Buy - WTB - on the parts forum or other watch site sales corners, but don't come across as desperate. Don't mention dad's watch, willing to pay any price etc.

Simple "looking for Omega 2179 dial and hands to restore watch"

Omega has a restoration service for $1000 but unless Frank were owned by someone very special to you, that's probably not the way to go.

I suspect that dial can't be refinished in the proper style.

That movement has a center sweep seconds, so it is definitely missing its second hand, which may be surmised by the photos provided but no one has said it explicitly.
