Watch beginner here! This guy told me he
found this piece laying around in his dad's
house and had it cleaned. He said I could
have it for $350 and that it's a 564 from
1966 (he didn't seem to know much about
watches). What can I do to verify if it's
real? Is this too good to be true? Thanks
guys!

I’m no expert on these so I’m sure someone else will chime in but case is extremely over polished, dial looks redone, crown is very worn and probably also incorrect, second hand looks like a replacement… I’d stay far away from this one.

It appears that the gold cap has been completely polished through in some places. You don't want it.

Wow. The medallion used to have 8 stars and a nice, crisp depiction of the observatory in Geneva. What’s left is… well. A thin plate of gold.

Also, look at the lugs, as pointed out by @Dan S

The gold-cap is completely polished away. Definitely a hard pass, despite the comparably low price.

That's the most over polished watch I've seen in a day or two. I wouldn't go anywhere near it.

Thanks for all the info! Based on all the answers I definitely didn’t buy it so I’ll just wait for the next one. Have a good one guys!

To me, its overly polished, I don't think i have seen an omega c-case that didn't have a brushed finish. Also, the crown seems to be from another omega watch, not from a c-case, i mean is it even signed, maybe not an omega at all? At first glance i thought the dial was original, and then i noticed the different font size on the "E" in the word "chronometer", but i might be wrong, because the "constellation" font is pretty spot on, whoever did the redial ( if it was), had a pretty steady hand for writing cursive letters.
