I got Mary-Anne, but what the heck is Brio?

Brio Chinotto...a soft drink of Italian origin. Made from a specific type of orange.

When I was in school for engineering, the small store around the corner had this tuff - it was the cheapest soft drink they had, so that's what I bought. Grew to love the stuff.

Guess you're just going to have to man up and drink the whole bottle.

Dammit!

The best possible reason to get yourself a beautiful, vintage lead crystal whisky decanter!

The other day there was a blind guy waiting to cross at the pedestrian crossing, I braked and waved him to let him go ::facepalm1::

You've probably resolved a catastrophic situation already Al, but if not, here's what I did.

Grab a bottle of the most unappealing stuff in your bar that nobody has touched for ages.
Empty and Rinse it well with hot water, then rinse with distilled water.
Use a stainless steel funnel from the kitchen into the neck of the "XXXXXX" bottle.
Decant the gold into the "XXXXXX" bottle.
Don't tell anyone.

Didn't happen today, but today was the first chance to get a good photo - driving in a city a couple of weeks ago, and the guy in the lane to my left ran over a pretty large stick that was on the road with his front right tire. Kicked it up and out to the side, right towards my car - had zero time to react...

Dammit...will have to visit the dent removal guy in the spring...

Interesting Xmas so far today...checking in on a neighbour's house as they were in Florida, and today walked into a major plumbing leak. We could hear it as soon as we walked in, and I said "I can smell the water!". Thought it was an upstairs toilet, but that was fine, so we got the the basement as quickly as possible to shut the main valve off...

Pipe that ran up the outside wall froze and burst....we got the water shut off quickly, but lots of damage done...

Basement flooded - thankfully their sump pump was working well, which kept the water level down to an inch or so deep...

Not sure how long the water was running, but we were there yesterday afternoon, so it was less than 24 hours between our visits.

So, called them in Florida and gave them the bad news. They are working on getting their insurance to get Winmar or some other restoration company to get in there. We did some clean-up to save family photos, baseball card collections, and stuff like that, but it's going to need a significant part of the house gutted. Their daughter was supposed to fly down yesterday to meet them down there, but their flights were delayed, so her and the son in law are taking over the effort, but we'll help out as needed of course. Not a very merry Xmas for these guys.

Make sure you turn off the water before you leave on vacation!

This thread has been dormant for a little while, but I just had to share this. Today, this happened. About ten minutes up the road from me.

Motorway still closed in both directions nearly twelve hours later. Bristol and surrounding area in complete gridlock.

Full story here - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-64822217 - but I’d pay good money to see video footage 🍿

The name makes it sound like a very inappropriate cleaning service
Depends on what’s getting polished!

Well, since this thread popped up again, I thought I would post an update on the my neighbour's water damaged house. The living room, dining room, and kitchen were completely gutted. New drywall and paint has been done, and the new kitchen cabinets will arrive early April. New flooring will be done after that. In the basement, everything down there was removed from the home to be dried and cleaned up, carpets all torn up, and that will all be restored.

Regarding the reason they left their water on while on vacation? Well they have a sump pump in the basement, and the back-up system they use is water based, so if the power goes out, the water supply is needed to pump the water out of the sump. I suggested that since the sump pump is right near their water supply into the house, that they put a valve in right after the line that goes to that back-up system, so the rest of the house can be shut off - they have had a plumber do that already.

We have a battery back-up...has served us well and we can shut our water off when we leave on vacation.
