I will be at the Canadian Grand Prix this year. 1st time for me to visit Montreal. I've got to support the home team of Haas.
@Watchmyroll Montreal is a great city - went to the Jazz Festival there once and had a wonderful time.
The best action in F1 is in the middle of field. If all you care about is who comes in first, you're gonna bet bored pretty quick. It's been like this for years and it's not gonna change any time soon.
Well, I am not watching the Indy 500 now http://www.espn.com/f1/story/_/id/26782719/fernando-alonso-fails-qualify-2019-indy-500 On the other hand I will be watching when they race Laguna Seca as that will be an amazing race for Indy cars. Sept 22nd
Rest in Peace Niki https://jalopnik.com/niki-lauda-formula-one-legend-and-three-time-world-cha-1834907056
The very first race I attended was at Laguna Seca in 1996 when Alex Zanardi made "The Pass" on Bryan Herta in the Corkscrew. It is too bad they can't make Laguna Seca work for F1. It is an awesome track.
It is sad day in the motorsports world to lose a legend like Lauda. They don't make them like they use to.
Supposedly the track can support it... The problem is the fan infrastructure around the track for it to support the higher costs of an F1 race. I was at the track for Historics watching a panel with David Hobbs and Sir Jackie Stewart and they said the track was fine and would be awesome, but no one would pay for the massive amount of improvements to support as many fans as they would need to support the bill from F1. Frankly I am surprised Indy is even going there. Its a great track but not a huge amount of seating for fans. Perfect open pits for the historics though. Doing that event was amazing.
I've been to Laguna Seca many times over the years for Superbikes and MotoGP, never for cars. I'd be surprised if the current F1 safety regs could be met, some places, especially at the far end of the track have very little runoff area. And with the wide cars of today it would be like Monaco, no passing. Would be interesting though. Agree about the fan situation, getting in and out of there is terrible, even the bike races were crowded and entry and exit was a hassle. You would have to have a massive upgrade in stands and pits, probably not cost effective. And as I remember Laguna Seca is very restricted as to how many events they can stage, size, etc and doing a major fan upgrade would undoubtedly run into many issues, (California doing its normal regulatory thing). It was a blow when they lost the MotoGP event a few years ago when it transferred to Austin for the only US event.
Saw Niki Lauda win the Long Beach GP in 1982, I think that was his first win for McLaren, those were the days!
Very sad to hear of Lauda passing. In other news, McLaren clown show at Indy: https://apnews.com/a8653967a9714ac7a9a3ba576f712fff Bumpy start to the triple.
Ferrari...smh. Ever since Sergio Marchionne passed away last year, the race operations/organization has been a disaster.
Just wondering can Ferrari sink any lower? Probably yes but the mistakes are already way too much and this is only the 6th race of the season
@texasmade If only it was only that long that they have been having issues but it's being going on far longer than that, just look at how many team principles there have been in recent years as well as not winning a Championship for how long now 11 years for the Constructors and 12 for the Drivers. I think they were so used to just spending there way out of trouble and having the best paid drivers and that the way F1 has changed just hasn't worked in their favour. As for Vettel as Eddie Irvine so aptly put it he is a one trick pony, and only won as many titles as he did because the Red Bull car at the time was so dominant and suited his style of driving whats he done at Ferrari really? nothing besides earning huge wages. Max in the Red Bull has more chance of taking the drivers championship than either Seb or Le Clerc this year at Ferrari IMO and he doesn't even stand a chance against the so dominant Merc's. Well tomorrows the race and it might rain so it could get interesting but you would need to be brave to bet against another Mercedes 1-2. Marc
Yes I know they haven’t won anything in years but they actually had a decent shot last year with a very good car. They were pretty competitive in 2017 and looked to have the best car for half of the races in 2018. After Sergio passed away, the team fell apart at the Italian GP and looks like they really lack strong leadership now.
