Hi

we can take about what source sounds better .

No matter what it has to start with a good recording ..

once you have that all lossy or lossless will sound a lot better .

for example.

Odetta BLUES EVERYWHERE I GO
I remember buying the CD on Amazon at the time they allowed you to listen to a sample before purchase . I was shocked how good the sample sounded ! And it was mp3 .

go check it out ..

just a thought

best
Bill

Multiple sighs

It is pretty interesting that we don’t seem to elicit the same emotive level when talking to each other about the subjective differences between different watch brands/sizes/styles/ ages but something that is truly extraordinarily subjective - what I like to listen to- has sparked such passion and outrage.
You may be blessed with truly golden ears, but for most of us the appreciation of music is an incredible mix of the sound, the production, the artists, the room and our own prior emotional associations with all of the above.

i listen to high bit rate, high quality digital recordings through very good equipment. Sometimes i just like the vinyl and the process of listening to vinyl better. Perhaps there is a weak link in my digital chain, but probably not. I just like it.

It would be really nice to respect the marvelous variety of human choice and experience . And we wont tell you that we hate your watches and you are wrong to choose them👍

Today I bought a small, fairly cheap thing for my stereo, a bluetooth reciever. Now I'm listening to music from my phone through my MacIntosh 1700 and my Norman Lab model 10s.

Bought two small waterproof bluetooth speakers on Tuesday. Now my son streams AC/DC on Tidal and rocks out in the bath/ shower while my wife cringes. I'm pretty new to wireless music stuff, but the convenience trumps sonics sometimes. No one should have to stop rocking just because they need to take a shower. 😎

My Rotel AV receiver has a Blue tooth fob. My son when he’s home uses it. MP3 files just sound thin through my gear. Like a copy of a copy of a copy.

You have me deep into audio on line yesterday. What did you swap out? Audible difference? I’m running a Ortophon 2m Bronze. I keep looking at these pricey beasts and wondering about cost benefit with my 64 year old ears.

Probably none, you have a decent, vastly underrated cartridge. You'd have to get a London cartridge for the price of a used car to get better instead of different.

I replaced a Denon 103D, triggered by the move from tube SET and single driver speakers to SS and my old LS5/3a. The cartridge is not fully broken in, but everything is a bit more detailed, a little slimmer. Overall an improvement so far, but not jaw dropping. Similar to using my old Dynavector 17D cartridge improvement. Maybe my system is not resolving enough to appreciate the differences fully.

This is why I’m a Quad monogamist... their tag line about being the closest thing to the original sound is not wasted. I recommend you have a listen to their ESLs as soon as is convenient; they are simply astonishing. Like nothing else I’ve ever heard.

Sadly those ESL-s are not capable of producing full range impact...timbre to die for, but missing grunt to move air and involve you in large scale dynamics..

Going to play around with some Zu Audio speakers in July. I bought some 'DW' Omens a few weeks back, and they are in the queue for fabrication. Now I just need a streamer/ DAC and amp to go with them. Will be all solid state, and likely Chi-fi, as I want to keep the price down and she won't want to do anything beyond hitting a power switch. She probably won't like this surprise system, as since I ordered the speakers (to assemble a system for her birthday) she has bought a cheap streamer and portable bluetooth speakers. Also I am planning on setting it up in the basement yoga studio -- since she spends the majority of the day down there -- but now some of her students are clamoring for her to host in-person classes again and if that happens the system cannot stay in that space.

Ahh another Zu DW owner.
Enjoy!
Andover Audio has a sweet little Streamer DAC for little money.

Dare I say it. Moving to a new condo in a month and going very minimalist. I am thinking of ditching the Onkyo, 4 foot speakers, airplane-landing sub for Sonos.

Am I going to hate my choice???

No shame in switching to some nice bookshelf speakers. Maybe try some powered bookshelfs and a streamer/ DAC/ preamp unit? (Sonos maybe, but there are others)
