FOIS Running Fast?

Hi folks, first post on the forums here. I recently bought a pre-owned speedmaster FOIS and it seems to be running fast. I've been timing it over the past three weeks and it averages about +18 seconds a day currently.

I should say I'm not overly concerned, I've been keeping it crown down at night and that seems to slow it slightly. But before I started experimenting with that it would run around +20 spd just normal daily wear and face up at night.

I know the 1861's spec goes to +15 if I recall. The watch came with the warranty and everything, just didn't know if this is something you would send in under warranty or just deal with it? I did demagnetize it thinking maybe during shipping it picked up something, that didn't change anything. I also thought maybe it just needed to settle in and it seems to have around the +18 mark.

Anyways, what would you do? Regulate? Send it in? I'd have to see where the nearest service center is, and I'm sure it's far where I am. Thanks in advance!

If it has a valid warranty card, was sourced from an authorised dealer and is still in date then yes I think you could send that in. They might only regulate it but that woudl be enough to improve the situation. If you are lucky you might get a full movement service out of it.

It does have a valid warranty that still has a few years left on it. I sourced it from a very well known AD pre-owned. I was thinking the same about getting a free service potentially by sending it in. I'll think on it some more. I'm sure it just needs to be regulated though.

Congrats on your new watch! Welcome to the forum.

Best course of action here is to have Omega regulate it.

One of my 1861 speedies (same movement as you) went a bit out for some reason, (it was between +22 and +25 p/d) it wasn't magnetised, so Omega regulated it and its terrifically accurate and consistent now.

My FOIS (different speedy to the above example) had a fast life at the start, it was +8 consistently, now its calmed right down and is usually +4/+5; I have no idea technically why, but a few of my older speedies can run a little erratic if they haven't been worn for some time, but given 2 weeks, they settle into a consistent rhythm.

As you've given it 3 weeks, it sounds like the only course of action here is to regulate. It will take approx 2-4 weeks via a boutique. If you aren't precious about it, a respected Omega independent will likely do it on site to the same standards.

1. Bring it into a watch maker (does not have to be an official Omega AD or anything) and have them put it on a timegrapher to get a more concise accuracy reading.
2. Have them demagnetize it
3. Wear the watch for a week and see if accuracy improves
4. If not improved, send in for service.
