I have been undecided over the FOIS and the Moonwatch Hesalite or Sapphire for so long now that it is unreal - cant decide which to buy, that has now been going on so long that the RRP's have gone up during my decision making or lack of, and it looks like all 3 are up to be discontinued - I will try to go pick one up in the next few days before its too late - but still unsure which of the 3 I want...any help would be most appreciated.

While there is no shortage of FOISs with over 15,000 made, I would venture to guess there are far more Moonwatches out there. Also, I love the 39.7mm size.

I'm sure there are a few sitting on AD/OB shelves and another stack on pre-loved markets. 😀

Would you get an FOIS and a Hesalite, or a FOIS and a Sapphire Sandwich? or just one - if just one, which one?

Ace Jewelers has also confirmed with a post on their IG page that FOIS has been discontinued.

I don't know if I'd really choose the FOIS over a 1861 hesalite - assuming both are about to be discontinued.

The FOIS is sapphire and whatever they put the 3861 into is going to be sapphire as well. Someday there will be an even more accurate looking FOIS with sapphire again but it will have the 3861 with it's hacking movement and better specs all around.

If the 1861 hesalite is gone it's over and will pretty much be the last of it's kind.

This is a pure speculation on your side, but even if someday, they did rerelease an updated FOIS, i can imagine they will also update their price tag. Considering the asking price of a "more accurate" EdWhite, i doubt i will be able to afford the "new updated FOIS".
Therefore i would rather go for a reasonably priced FOIS now, while they are still available. Also the good old movement is a plus.
In my case, i even got a 10% off the MSRP shortly before the last price update, not too bad for a watch with 5 years warranty.

But it doesnt mean i would advice taking a FOIS over a Hesalite Speedy Pro. That is a different story.
For me the FOIS wins esthetics-wise and Speedy Pro wins legibility-wise. Which one i prefer more? go figure.. 🤨 😁

I have an FOIS and I love it, but it didn’t close the book on speedmasters for me. I still would like to own the hesalite moonwatch.

Going forward they may want to keep the Ed White as the only straight lugged historic option. Since that watch was released I’ve always thought that to the average punter the FOIS looks very similar but at 1/3rd the cost, and was probably on the chopping block as a result.

I reckon there will be a few Sedna gold FOIS hanging around - but for that $$$ you could get an Ed White.

I was to-ing and fro-ing between the hesalite Speedy and the FOIS, in the end the FOIS was a bit too dressy and as noted above at certain angles the time is hard to read. So the Pro won out and I’ve worn it pretty much every day for the last 3 years 😁

I have an inkling that it will be replaced, FOIS successfully created a niche for itself away from the mainline speedmasters.

Either way, I certainly don't think the design will be lost and we will almost certainly see it again, perhaps with a movement and or other upgrades.

I’ve had my FOIS for about 2 years now and I can tell you I’m as much a fan of it now as I was when I first picked it up. Like many, it did come down to a choice between the FOIS and the hesalite pro and I’m glad I went for the FOIS. Love the 39mm case size which fits great on my wrist and in my case at least, it’s extremely legible. I’ve never once had an issue telling time on it.

It reminds me of the CK2998 and isn’t an exact copy of it. May be that’s why I like it. It’s, it’s own thing and IMO classy AF regardless.

I got both a few year apart and wear them in weekly cycles pretty much 99% of the time, until my BB58 Blue arrived to challenge for wrist time.

Everything else I own comes out every now and then, but most barley make it till lunch time before being exchanged for a Speedy.

I ordered one today for arrival tomorrow - have had a note to say its dispatched from the AD - so awaiting text or email from the courier in the morning for what time it should arrive - if it arrives as expected tomorrow - then it seems like some UK dealers do still have FOIS stock

You have both the Moonwatch and the FOIS - which Moonwatch do you have (Hesalite or Sapphire) and which of your two do you prefer?

I also got a BB58 Blue recently, damn its such a fine watch and I haven't been able to take it off since I bought it...

I have the Hesalite Moonwatch version. It's hard to choose a favourite between the two if I am being honest. I love both of them while the same time finding faults in them.

I love the proportions of the FOIS, that is until I catch glimpse of how tall it stand's on my wrist. It's one or two millimetres too tall for me.

I love the height of the Moonwatch but am findings as my tastes refine the 42mm looks too big on my wrist.

The ideal Speedy for me is as tall as the Moon watch and the diameter of the FOIS and as this is a fantasy watch, there will be a Snoopy on it too 😉

The BB58 hits the spot perfectly for me, from fit to form as well as the styling. I think it's a strap monster and looks great on pretty much anything.

Sounds like you need to get a SS EW321.

Sucks to hear. I love my FOIS. It's the perfect sized watch for my wrist. I haven't gotten around to putting on the flat link Forstner bracelet I recently got, but it will probably fit even better on my wrist with that.
