First vintage Omega purchase advice

Good afternoon all,

After a fair amount of research I’ve decided that a gold 60’s Omega Seamaster De Ville is the one for me for my first vintage purchase.

I’ve been looking around a fair amount and have come across the following which I would be keen to get your thoughts on.

A couple of doubts in my mind;

1) Is the dial too perfect to be original?!

2) The “Omega” font / writing on the dial is somewhat different to most Omegas but consistent with other watches of this model and age - was this the same with all of the Seamaster De Ville’s?!

Really appreciate any thoughts!

Actually not very common to have “OMEGA” in applied letter on the dial I think. But I’ll leave it to the experts.

Price? Applied Omega not uncommon. The case has seen a good amount of polishing.

Est. a bit below the £1k mark. I wondered about the level of polishing but thought the lugs didn’t look too rounded?!

Advice I've never seen given on the forums... The watch will never regain its shape without being ground down again. It will permanently change the lugs to be shaped like toothpicks.

Thanks for the advice - do you think this watch looks too heavily polished?! My untrained eye thought it was polished but better than a lot of examples out there...

For sure it can be done. As long as you don’t ask for a random polish job but hire a professional to apply original finish 😉

Unless the price is AMAZING, I’d keep looking and wait for a better example to come along. In the interim, you can save a bit more too 👍. Patience is a hard thing to achieve when we really want a watch, but in the end you will be happier with one great watch than 4 “okay” ones. Spend some time at https://omegaforums.net/threads/condition-condition-condition-and-other-pieces-of-advice.1716/ 😉
